The mood of the story is directly related to the plot, for the narrator makes it clear right at the beginning that he has been abused by Fortunato and that he is planning revenge. From the very moment when he says that he answers all of Fortunato's abuses with a smile, it is clear that this is an eerie and frightening tale. The setting of the story is never clear, but from the costumed carnival that is described, it could be either New Orleans or Rome. Furthermore, given the description of vast underground vaults, it is most likely somewhere in Italy. Most telling of all the words in the story are those which describe the author's coat of arms: A golden foot in a blue background crushing a snake whose fangs are embedded in the foot's heel - with the motto Nemo me impune lacessit (No one provokes me with impunity). This is by far the narrator's intent to harm Fortunato, who is either too drunk or too arrogant to understand. All of this adds to the tension in the story.

The best way to figure this out is to write a rough draft or two of the paper first. Then see what it gives you. A play on words is good, but make it relate to the point of your paper. Be sure to tie it in with your last line if necessary.

I can't give you a title, but can you read your paper aloud, with Pink Floyd's "Another brick in the Wall" playing in the background?
