Learning html (xhtml) is definitely the way to start. There's so much to learn but without the knowledge of html (xhtml) you could come across many problems including how your site is displayed in various browsers. Trying to fix any problems with your code would be an absolute nightmare if you don't know what you are looking for.
You could get a book from the library or buy yourself one. Another way is to 'Google' online html tutorials. There's tons of them, keep trying them until you find one you are comfortable with. It's pretty straight forward to begin with, it's when you want to make your pages interactive that it gets a lot more challenging!
Good Luck and have fun.

i would recommend learning HTML (hypertext markup language). there is plenty of material available online, but i would recommend a good book, i learnet HTML from this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Use-HTML-XHTML/dp/0672320312/sr=11-1/qid=1163191372/ref=sr_11_1/026-0414904-7344435, WYSIWYG editors are good but its a good idea to know what html code is being used.
