It is in reference to legal issue.
In order to take action against trespassers it must be POSTED that the property they are entering is private property. The signs began to include POSTED as backup for the property owner.

Not only do the signs have to be posted but, they have to be posted so at least one sign is visible from anywhere on the property so the Posted sign kind of says this is the case in THIS case.

and....in addition....the "do not enter"..."no hunting"..."private"...
any/all "posted" listings have to be listed/posted in the appropriate county court house...that is what makes it a public posting
