I'll be 38 weeks Sunday. Tuesday, when I went to the OB, he told me I was about 2 cm. That night I had a lot of cramping and the following morning I had a some bloody discharge (probably the mucus plug) that lasted throughout the morning. For the rest of the day, yesterday, and this morning - I've been having BH contractions - some that are quite strong, but not what I would call painful. I also don't notice any set pattern, nor do they seem to get stronger or closer together. Also today, I noticed an increase in discharge this morning, had some nausea and a bit of a headache.

My family's a little "on edge" because I haven't gone to the hopsital to get checked out. I am very anxious to get this over with, but I do not want to go to the hospital just to look like an idiot and get sent home. However, with my first child, I didn't even know I was in labor. I was dilated to 6 cm when the doctor checked me (I was at my OB appt). I never felt any contractions, pain, etc.

Well, I went to the ER and I wasn't in labor - while a few contractions showed up, and I found out that I'm now around 2.5 cm -apparently what I was feeling were BH contractions. :(

Please go-better to be safe then sorry. You will not look foolish-I promise-that is what they are there for-to check on you and take care of you and your un-born baby.I went 4 times to the hospital with my 1st pregnancy thinking I was in labor.I felt stupid but they were very understanding.

Normally, I would suggest waiting until 5 minutes at part and regular scheduled contractions, IF you're within a half hour or so from the hospital, but given that your last birth went unnoticed until 6cm to you, it would probably be in your best interest to go and just get checked, better to day than over the weekend...

Anyone in the maternity ward will tell you....Better safe than sorry! YES you should go to the hospital to get things checked out, and they can attach the monitors to check out the baby. It's good to know, plus stressing that late in pregnancy can lead to problems. I went in 4 times with my first and was sent home....I told them all how dumb I felt, and they told me first for tenth baby, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck!

it would not hurt to go and have yourself checked out. don't worry about looking like an idiot. even if you do get sent home, it would ease your mind and your familys mind. at any point in which you have 4 pains in an hour, you definetly should go. if you do not go out there at least put in a call and tell them whats going on.
good luck

the only risk with going is its been foudn that women who go to hospital early in labor end up more likely to have a c-section. your better off laboring at home untill your far along in labor and then going to the hospital. if you feel fine and dont want to go then dont. its your body not your families.
