since there is no real answer to the square root of any negative number we write i
i=the square root of -1

if you did the square root of -25 you would get 5i which equals to 5 times the square root of -1

Well these seems to be beaten to death but like everyone said you can't find the square of a negative number. In this case it would just be "i" which stands for imginary.

however when you get higher in math you can find imaginary roots of negative numbers i.e. -25 = 5i
