You're so funny. I'm addicted to the ABC soaps, and I KNOW they are crappy crap - as you put it. It's the same crap over and over and over. The same storylines redone between different characters.
I DVR them and speed through the parts I don't care about, including commercials. ..and I do this while playing mindless puzzle games on neopets. Sad existence? Sometimes, but it's how I unwind after work. Soaps done in 2 hours or less. Dinner still gets cooked, house gets clean, iggy gets loved.
You're not "less of a woman" and I'm not less than slightly insane.
love ya.

I watch Days of our lives but it's only because my mom watched it when I was young s technically I have watched it for 30 years.
With the people I know it's about 50-50 with the girls on watching soaps.
If it's not your thing, dont worry about it. I'm the only girl I know that doesn't watch Greys anatomy or ER or Scrubs or whatever--which by the way, could be classified a serial show, which, in essence is a soap
P.S. I see you're from the UK and everybody knows how absorbed people from the UK are in tabloidal, sensational crap. I worked there for a few months in 04' and you couldn't get away from all the tabloids. So the soaps there are a little different from US ones. Just an observation

No you're not less of a woman for not watching soaps. I believe more women used to watch soaps when more women were housewives and had to find entertainment while watching the kids and keeping up the house. I work M-F from 8:00 - 5:00 so I don't have time to watch soaps. My life has enough spice in it so I don't have to depend on the tube.

If you are, then I am too. I can't stand soaps, and I don't watch them. And I don't feel any less of a woman for it. In fact, I feel better about myself because I'm not wrapped up in the lives of fictional characters on TV. It's so boring when people start to talk about "Did you see what happened yesterday?" or "I can't believe she did that!" Who cares, it's just television.
The few times I've watched it with others (hey, it was their house) I didn't see anything to like about the characters on the shows, the plot lines, or the writing. It's not behavior anyone would want to have or deal with in real life. If you had a friend that acted like those women, or dated a guy like that, you would get them out of your life fast. So I don't get why people find them so entertaining.

No your just clearly sane, why waste your time watching over paid, talentless actors/actresses act out boring story lines. I've never understood people who say they like a certain soap because it's like real life..if that makes it good what are they living then!!! Still I would have to put soaps slightly above the latest trend of realty shows... Boring people with over inflated ego's acting up to the camera in the hope of becoming a Z list celebrity.. Keep up the good work!!

Thank you!!! I too don't watch soaps and often feel left out when other women have in depth conversations about these people who I dont know. I often find myself saying "thats awful that Pauline/Madge/Deirdre's husband has run off with a one legged prostitute and now she has to go to prison in a case of mistaken identity whith the transexual belly dancer who works in the pub" Only to be told that said woman is not their mum/sister/best mate but some bloody woman off eastenders! and to be quite frank, isn't the first series dragging on a bit!

Hi!
I know what you mean!!
I only 'watch' Corrie, but not in the true sense of the word!
I'll explain...
We (me and the kids) watch it for the comedy content. I tell you it's the funniest thing on TV. We Sky+ it, and watch it when we've got a spare hour or so over the weekend.
However, we had a late tea tonight and came straight into the living room and it had just started on TV. Hence my question a few minutes ago about some old people kissing on it tonight!!!
We were all in hysterics!!!
Interestingly phrased question though!

No you ain't less of a woman - many women do not watch soaps..
What you are doing with that Q though might be described in evolutionary terms as distinguishing yourself from the competition - this involves making a statement which contains a possibly undesirable female trait then making a point of saying that you are the exception to the rule..
It often is a ploy to sub-consciously make men (if one is heterosexual) see that you are a good bet..
So the 'women do x,y,z' but I don't thing is sufficient drama in itself..

I think you’re more of a woman because you don’t. Most of the soaps out now make out women to seem so needy and desperate for a man’s attention. Also there are to many stereotypes of people and their careers and … oh ya, all of the characters are all good looking, nothing wrong with looking at good looking people but how is that realistic? It’s all so predictable, what a waste of time.
Good for you for not watching. Kudos to you!

I am in the Army and live in Germany now so the Soaps come on at crazy times here. So she (the wife) goes on-line and reads about them now. Telivision shouldnt be the main focuse of your free time. Life is to short for that.
