is it x-3/x+2 or (x-3)/(x+2)?

lets assume the second one

2x(x+2)/(x+2)=x-3
x+2 cancels out

2x=x-3
x=-3

You need to get rid of the denominators.

2x/x+2=x-3/x+2

so multiply both sides by x+2
the denominators get cancelled out

You'll get 2x = x-3

You only need x on one side, so subtract x from both sides to get
x = -3
