On the contrary, it demonstrates that many people are unhappy with the status quo for one reason or another. Voter sampling shows that people voted on a variety of different issues, but the majority wanted to send a message to the Republicans. I am an independent and I did vote for the Republicans, this is not because I believe they were doing a good job, quite the contrary on many issues actually. However, I did not vote for the Democrats because I did not see any positive proposals for change. Instead they campaigned extensively on a platform of we are not the Republicans. After giving the matter a great deal of thought, I have come to the conclusion that the people made the right choice in the election. They have created a situation where neither side can accomplish their agenda without the other for the next 2 years. If the Democrats honestly want to work for change beneficial to all Americans they can prove this fact by crafting true bi-partisan legislation. For the Republicans it is a chance to reflect on why they were fired and try to make changes that once again embrace the will of the people. Either way, the next election will be very important and will hinge on the how well the two sides work together in the next 2 years.

No, the 2006 vote demonstrates the pattern of Americans to vote for the other party at the midpoint of a president's second term.

I disagree, and please hear me out before you pass over my answer.

Yes, there is a part of America that is EXTREMELY gullible, but most of these people are the ones that make up the normal American left-wing. They believe everything they're told by the media, and they keep working the same old rhetoric even after it has been disproven (WMDs in Iraq, Bush lied, etc.).

However, I don't think that alone was enough to cause the Republicans to lose congress. What I DO believe is that many Americans, informed moderates and conservatives (Evangelicals and non-evangelicals alike) were fed-up with how the government has conducted itself. The Republicans seemed to have abandoned consrevativism, abandoned the conservative agenda. They began to spend like democrats. Some of their moral stances became lousy as democrats. They abandoned the "compassionate conservativism" agenda which helped to push them into office in the first place.

What happened was not that America "woke up", and not that they were "gullible" but that some conservatives, Evangelicals in particular, decided to stay home, while SOME moderates voted democrat, many for the first time in ages (This is based on the testimony of a moderate friend of mine).

Hopefully, the GOP will learn from this, and will get back to their conservative roots. America's values have not suddenly changed, and the sooner they realize that, the sooner they will gain control back. :)

Sure we agree, that's why Congress is no longer under republican control. I think you meant 2000 and especially 2004. Now that was gullibility at its zenith.

All I ever heard from Rep's in the past several years is warnings of how in danger we are. They held so many Americans in the grips of fear, I think it was they who were gullible. Oh, you better vote for us, or otherwise, you're gonna die! I do'nt buy it for a second. I also never bought any of their "family values" garbage, but too many Americans did. Now, where has that gotten them? Corruption scandals, no end to abortion, a war costing us billions, with no way out and based on lies, and a divided populace. And yet people still believe they are helping the American people. Now, THAT'S gullible.

Disagree,
For the first time in six years Americans are finally starting to use their heads and THINK instead of getting caught up in Patriotism and religion. Voting means knowing all of the information about the candidate and then voting for the best qualified person, not just because they are from your state or party or because they didnt serve in the military ect...

Though there are alot of Liberal Dumbasses out there I actually see the opposite.
What happened in this Election was a clear message to the GOP to fall back in formation behind the Reagan Conservative, Christian Evangelical, Strong Defense, Small Government philosophy that brought them the long standing victory they have squandered.
Since 2000 the American voting public have shown clearly that if the GOP would stand to their foundation the voters will be there to guarantee that a Democrat never sees the Oval Office again.
Apparently the GOP lacks faith in it's constituency. Maybe, just maybe now they will trust us and do what we expect.
The Democrats think they have a victory here, yet they will find out the truth when Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid try to impose their Socialist ideas on America.
The majority of Democratic wins were actually rather Conservative Democrats who will not necessarily tow the Party line.
