does anyone know of a contract mobile phone that I can specify say £25 usage per month and then only incoming calls? I want to get my wee boy a contract phone as they are better value but I don't want to get a mega bill every month. I want to be able to state the maximum spend and stop usage after it is reached. I am in the UK

my friend has one like that.
i think its on t-mobile
after he uses up his £25 worth of minutes if he wants to make calls out he has to top his phone up it turns into pay as you go.
the minium top up for t-mobile is £10.
i know he got it from carphone warehouse.

My ten year old has a regular phone (we don't have the payment plans). He can call everyone in the family for free and knows that he's not allowed to call anyone else without permission. He knows that if he goes over a certain amount a month, the phone will be taken away from him. So far this has worked very well and he never risks losing the phone.
I know you have so many different payment plans in the UK. I think your best bet would be to go to a few shops and ask them for the best deal.
For those who say your boy is too young to have a phone: A few years ago I was totally against kids having mobile phones but I gave one to my son when he was 9, not for him but for me! I think it's added security and instead of ringing all his friends and walking for hours around the neighbourhood when he's having too much fun to go home, I can call him. If something happens to him, he can call me. Maybe it's selfish of me but I'm a lot less worried about him now.

I dont really think that is possible. Pay as you go is the best thing to do. I think you can chose either Three, Orange or T-Mobile. I use 3 contract and you can pay like twenty pounds a month for a simple plan, good deal. But i dont know if it can only become income calls.. You should contact 3 or any other phone company of the above and see what plans they have and if they can see if you can only have income calls.

My 12 yr old and 9 yr old both have a Tesco PAYG and O2 PAYG card for each of their phones (Private and School.) The school phones are cheap Motorola's. Their Private phones are Sony W800i's.
That way, they have an emergency phone to use if required whilst in school (low value with small credit.) and a High Value, High Credit phone for use at home and at weekends.
As we (wife and I) are on O2 contracts, it makes calling cheaper for all of us and still gives flexibility and security. (£5 credit to School phone and £20 credit to Private phone per month.)
If however you do decide to go down the contract road, there is a solution. Most contracts can be limited down for maximum monthly spend. Only the person who holds the contract can alter the limit placed on the account. Have a word with O2, Voda' , Virgin etc. Their staff will be able to advise you in this situation.

Get pay as you go, it is financial suicide to give a child a contract phone, my daughter will spend £100 a month if I let her and my neighbour confiscated her sons the first month over £200. they just don't care, and as for getting a better one with a contract that is why, The phone companies know full well that the kids will run up a bill. That is how you get the phone for FREE ??

Yes vodafone will allow you to setup a budget on ANY contract!
once you reach it you get no more outgoing calls, texts etc.
it may go over slightly as vodafone does the budget checks at the end of the day
Get a contract phone with say 100 mins and lots of texts and put a £5 budget on it.
Check out
http://www.freemobilesuk.com
they have a wide selection of prepay and contract phones at low prices.
Some are even free (eg free handset and free contract)
offers change on a regular basis.
free PSP & xbox360 are common offers for example

Get U-Fix from T-Mobile.
You get a free phone, and you say you want to spend £25 per month, u get a price plan and then once thats all used up it reverts to pay as u go.

You're too young. Wait until you're 18. Besides, you don't need a cell phone at your age. Seriously.
