Karel Capek, Czech, the author of "R.U.R." (Rosumovi Umeli Roboti, a play). The word robot comes comes from the Czech word 'robota' meaning hard work, an effort. I believe the term 'robot' became popular after "R.U.R" was translated into English (somewhen in 1920s). As far as I know "robot" originally meant an artificially created human being accustomed to hard work.

C.J Cherryh C.S Friedman Marion Zimmer Bradley these great women fought to be in a genre considered only writable by men. they were some of the earliest women to write in the sci fi genre there is also Anne Mccafferty, Andre Norton, Irene Radford, more fantasy than sci fi is Mercedes Lackey, Jennifer Roberson, Kate Elliot, Fiona Patten, Kate Forsyth, & Anne Bishop i don't know if they are all white, but they are definitely not men. all of them are women. it seems after some research that all the male authors i have are white, didn't know that until i started looking, the only one i am not sure on as i can not find a picture of him in any of the books or online is Mark Anthony (the last rune series) not sure if that helps you or not, good luck
