I am the leader of a congregation and one of the members has brought up to my attention a family issue.
This is not a joke!!! I honestly don't know how to deal with it. The mother walked in their 16 y/o girl and she was in all four having sex with the dog. They are horrified, as I am and want me to talk to her about it, they refuse to go see a mental health specialist at this point (I hope I can convince them soon), I understand she is at an age of exploration and all that but this one is way OUT THERE!!! Has anyone done this before? How would you handle it if it was your child?
Please feel free to im me if have any questions.

ok perhaps I wasn't clear, the family doesn't want to see a mental health specialist, so that's out of the question at the moment. Believe me when I tell you that I tried to get them to. I spent over an hour telling them that it was the best option. Also I am not breaching the confidentiality of these people, no one knows who they are.
Because of my position I can't turn away from them, I am confident that perhaps this has happened to someone else and they can give me a rough idea.

I have talked to collegues of mine and even my mentor but their answer's are to either go biblical and condemn the action or mental health option. I disagree with the condemnation at this point and still truying to get the parents to agree with the theapist option.

I understand that they do not want to see a mental health professional.
However, you need to draw the line on what you can and cannot do. You can listen to them, advise them, pray for them. But beyond that there is not much you can do if they are not willing to get their daughter help.
I think you need to speak to the leadership in your congregation. You do not need to name names. But come to a decision as a collective and then approach the family.
Your obligation as a leader is to be confidential but not if you suspect self destructive behavior. You have an obligation to phone social services if they do not seek help. Beastiality is a crime.

OK I'll bite. But I really hafta ask you what your relationship with this girl is like. Does she trust you? Are you just another annoying authority figure?
My reason is simple. If the girl really views you as someone who cares about her well being then counsel the child. If she views you as an outlet for her parents, then try and help them find an adult that she can talk to candidly. You can never be sure what is really going on inside the home, so an outside POV might be just the ticket. I noticed that another response mentioned the possibility of sexual abuse and I concur to the possibility, but also be aware that there are tons of websites dedicated to bestiality as well as other sexual perversions. In contradiction to what another poster said, not all states have laws regarding bestiality on the books.
I wish you well, and am grateful that I'm not the one is your position, it's a tough one.

Sexual things are usually always difficult to discuss and I feel like the young lady would not WANT to discuss this with you. Just being caught may put a stop to it, if there are not any "demons beneath" pushing this child towards bestiality. Do you have female counselors or highly trusted and spiritual women at your church? Counseling of any kind will be ineffective if it is forced. So in the mean time... Keep praying about this and have the parents get rid of the dog!

Well, if you are the leader of the congregation, you are obligated to point out the prohibitions of beastiality to the family (you probably have done this). This is NOT a physical or mental matter it is spiritual (and I hope you know that). You know the Scripture the enemy is out to steal, kill, and destroy. By giving in to that type of sexual activity this girl is giving into the spirit of lust (possibly demonic). This activity will steal her sexual identity, kill her spirit spiritually and possibly kill her in an animal lust attack, and destroy her due to her desires to perform with animals and walk/run away from the God-given desire of a woman for a man, destroy her criminally (animal cruelty charges, beastiality charges in some states) and destroy her physically from the possible harm of an animal's member inside her physically. Does she need mental health counseling? Perhaps, but first she needs spiritual deliverance and if you do not know what I'm talking about you need to find a Spirit filled MATURE pastor/peer to help you in counseling this family. (yes I am talking Pentecostal minister-- Assembly of God, Church of God {Cleveland, TN}, Pentecostal Holiness, Open Bible, Vineyard, etc). This is much more spiritually serious than it is physically or mentally. This girl needs spiritual deliverance and NOW.

I would sit her down, and calmly explain that what she wants to do is a crime, and ask her why she wants to do it. At her age it's normal to want to experiment, and I'm sure she's confused enough at her urges as it is. Keep encouraging the family to take their daughter to a therapist so she can talk this out with a professional. Good luck!

This is not normal. This girl is obviously very disturbed and may have been sexual abused at some point in her life. Please stress the importance of receiving counseling from a licensed therapist. keeping the conversation with the girl light at first with questions about how she is feeling, whats going on at school, ask about her friends, move on to if she has a boyfriend...interested in girls...then ask why the dog? Who knows that's why there is a term beastiality(spelling?)...some people like that sort of thing. But I would force my daughter into therapy if that happened to me.

Isn't that impossible? If they/you mean masturbating with a dog, that sounds more possible. I guess just sitting down and talking to the daughter and asking her why she did it would be the best option.

As a leader of a congregation. You would think that YOU would know better to consult with the family, other trusted pastors or therapists rather going online and going into detail about something like this.

____________
In response to your update, if they wont see a therapist, what I'm saying is you could consult one, a pastorial one or whatever to give you advice on how to handle this situation.

Counselling is the only thing that can help. This poor girl is old enough to know better but she needs more direction with what is RIGHT and what is WRONG. Sexual experimentation is one thing, beastiality is not experimentation, it's a crime.

You are the leader of a congregation and you are spilling confidential information about one of your people on Yahoo answers, that seems a little strange to me, but what the heck!

I guess I don't quite understand why her parents want you to talk to her. Sounds like she needs (no offense) professional help. I would also love to know how she got the dog to cooperate...? Strange / Freakish! Who in their right mind would want to "do" a dog...literately!
