Compromise and let him sleep on his side. All 5 of mine did and I trust in it 100%. Roll 2 towels to hold him in place, so he won't roll frontwards or backwards. It will still allow him to throw his arm over and feel more on his tummy, if that's where he's comfortable, but he won't be able to suffocate on his side.

Let him sleep on his tummy, there is NO PROOF tummy sleeping causes sids. I slept on my tummy and 53 years later I'm still hiere, my daughter slept on her tummy (they put her that way in the neo natal ICU at the hospital), my nieces, nephews, sisters all were tummy sleepers. The only "problem" I personally heard of was when a close friend (who insisted only back sleeping for newborns), put her baby to sleep on the back, woke up the next morning and found the baby had aspirated on her own vomit. The baby had gotten sick in the night and being too young to roll over choked on her own vomit.

Roll a recieving blanket into a tight cylinder.. Place behind the baby and place the baby on his side to sleep... Do not place fluffy bedding in with him.... (i.e. no stuffed animals or quilts etc.)

Once baby is able to roll over there is no way you are gonna keep him from sleeping how he likes, the only thing you can do is make the envirment safe, a firm matress/sleep surface, tight fitting sheet, no fluffy blankets bedding/ for warmth try blanket sleepers....

The chances of SIDS drastically reduces once baby is able to lift his/her head and roll over as long as you don't have bedding or other items baby can get trapped in present...

Baby does not have to sleep on his back a side will do.. and the rolled up reciveing blanket can act as a support to help baby stay on his side...

Talk to his doctor. When my youngest was just about that age he would wake up EVERY time I put him down on his back. And he was colicky so getting him to sleep was a big job. I talked to his doctor and she said since he was healthy (colic doesn't count as not healthy) and we have no family history of SIDS and no one in the family smokes, it would be OK. I am not saying it is OK for your son. I don't know. But the doctor can let you know. Otherwise try for the side. Good luck.

Mine wouldn't either!! I would not put pillows around him though!! That would make me more nervous than letting him sleep on his belly. My son is 19 months old and still sleeps on his tummy. We did have a great baby monitor that senses movement. That made me sleep better, but I still checked on him all the time. Good luck!!

my son was the same way and i say as long as he can lift his head properly go ahead and let him sleep on his belly....they are always changing their minds when it comes to SIDS....actually there was a article just this week linking SIDS to something in the brain.

Have you tried swaddling him? My three month old doesn't sleep on his back either. He moves his hands around too much and never seems to get comfortable. Admittedly, I place him on his belly but you are not comfortable with that so I would suggest side positioning or swaddling.

There's not much you can do. Keep anything that might inhibit his breathing away from him. You could try nestling him between pillows when you lay him on his back, but I certainly wouldn't suggest it because he could still turn over and suffocate.

The best position for a baby is on their side actually. Try laying him on his side and tuck a small pillow or blanket behind his back. This will help hold him in place. It's better on their back in case they spit up, if they were on their back, they might choke. This way, if he spits up, it just gets on the mattress. Best of luck!
