yes, these are some of the activities one can practise to try to divert the mind so that anger ebbs away. first step is to realise that anger needs to be controlled, that itself is half the battle won. when an individual realises that he needs to divert the mind so that bitter words are not said in anger as they cause more damage than body harm, it shows that he/she cares for the other person on whom they are unleashing anger.
nature has a very calming effect indeed on an individual. hearing music also helps a lot. or just thinking of some lighter moments in life can also act as a balm.

I don't think that is what you meant to say. If you are from an argumentive family then they will argue no matter where they are.
An argumentive spirit has to be changed internally within each person. You don't have the power to change other people, you just have the power to change how YOU react to them.

They can serve to calm the mind only if you concentrate on those things at the time. If something is bothering you enough to distract you from really enjoying these things, and concentrating wholly on them, then these things may just make you feel like they are the distractions.
