I am a senior in high school and lately I've been letting my senior year pass by so lazily. It's like I don't care at all about my grades and assume I will graduate nonethelsess, which I will do, but I'm just not paying attention anymore in class, not doing any homework @ all, and not caring about the bad grades I am now receiving.
I've been hit with a "laissez-faire" attitude this year, because frankly, I am SICK of school, sick of being in it, and so tired of doing needless work.
Is this out of the ordinary for me to feel this way and do this? Is it okay, if I know I can still get all my credits 2 graduate (D's, mind you- that's all the military said I needed), to do this? I just can't strive myself anymore to do well in school. I am just so tired of being here.

Hun, barring that you are NOT DEPRESSED...you have a case of senioritis. I had four kids, they all got it. Just smile, do the best you can and try not to let your grades go down. It gets cured immediately after you graduate and go to work or school back at the bottom again.

It's called senioritis where I live, and all seniors have it to some degree. It looks like you have it bad though. Although you only need D's to join the military, you might want to consider what might happen if you chooose not to make military service a career. Those good grades will be useful if college is a path you might take someday. Also, I'd assume higher grades would get you further in the military because it shows your capacity for intelligence.

What about the classes you're taking? Are you taking classes just to get enough credits to graduate? Maybe you should ask your counselor if you can switch into classes that are more interesting, ones that motivate you to work more.

Think about it. You've got just one more year to go. By your concern about your attitude, I would guess that you've been a pretty good student for the past three years. So why ruin it now? Make your last year count, because you don't want to look back on high school and regret the decisions you made. Get more active in your school. Join some clubs. And enjoy your last year, because it'll be the saddest day of your life when it ends.

Even though you're planning on joining the military, you should know that it's not uncommon for people to change their minds. I've had friends join the military, only to get out when they could and have to figure out what to do next. For that reason, you should try to put more effort in your school work. I know senior year is a pain, you're almost out of there but they still make you show up every day. But when you don't put any effort into school, you don't just suffer from your grades, you also suffer from not learning the things you need should you pursue any type of degree later on.

While it's not really a good thing, your attitude is really pretty typical among seniors. Do try your best to get what you can out of your senior year, though. While you may be set on joining the military, you need to keep your options open for what happens after that.
