Pulling out now would have a devastating effect on our country, rendering Iraq defenseless against becoming a terrorist state. A country with the resources that Iraq has would become a base for terrorists worldwide. The question is, can and will the Democrats pullout before we have finished?

For those of you that think an immediate pullout is in order, I would like to hear of some solutions as to what you would do with the disaster that would be left behind. Bush bashing will not solve this problem. The Dem's have done that for 6 years now. It is time for some new ideas, but im not hearing any.

What devastating effects would that do to US? I think the opposite will occur. It will not be the first time. We have to remember the campaigns at Korea and Vietnam The human losses of civilians and the army of Iraq are astronomical. What is the use ? It is better to retire honorably than suffer an ignominious defeat. The daily casualties are rising continuously,. The Public Debt is rising steadily as well as the public opinion against the war. There would a lot of unrest there after the end of the conflict due to their differences but at the long term they would find a solution as they have found for centuries to similar situations. Many a dictatorship have come to an end after some time, if that was the problem.

Well, according to most polls, over 60% of Americans oppose what's currently happening in Iraq, and most said that was one of the primary issues that causes them to vote in a new Congress.
So, given that most of the US is opposed to the current situation, and the majority of people in Iraq are opposed to the current situation, it's pretty good odds that the current situation will change.
As far as withdrawal "before we have finished", you do realize that "finishing" will take decades? Finishing means having a stable Iraqi government that is not threatened by civil war or invasion from neighboring countries. It took the US almost 30 years to reach that point, and we started out being more or less in agreement internally.
Iraq is starting out in the middle of a long-standing sectarian/civil war. It will take decades before it's stable. Do you really think we should commit hundreds of thousands of troops for the next few decades?

What would be different than what it was before we went in?
Iraqis won't allow some one to take over their country whether it's Iran, Syria or more extreme Muslims. Sadam kept everything in control because people knew that they would be killed if they did something he didn't like. It is going to be the same way when it's "finished".
What we should do is pull back, guard their borders, and let them fight it out. When we do this, we should let them know that we are going to go back in and kick the winner's butt after they're done fighting.

After the Bush administration made the region unstable, it would be a disservice to the whole world to pullout completely.
What needs to be done is for the troops to pull back to the borders and secure them while we let the Iraqis stand up and take care of the insurgency problem for themselves.
