I dont keep open food lying around. i have trash cans with lids on them. when i have dishes in the sink i try and rinse them out so there is no food in them. im confused why there are so many nats in my house! please someone help me! (i have a baby also)

They breed in household plants.
Fill a spray bottle with water and a single drop of dish detergent shake. If it foams much, then too much soap, start over.
After watering your plants with straight water, spray the surface dirt with the spray bottle of water/soap. Gnats will be gone within week. Repeat after next several waterings.
Avoid spraying on the leaves of your plants. Just hit the surface dirt.

Put small open containers of Apple Cider Vinegar on your counters at night. The Gnats are attracted to the smell and they will drown in the vinegar.
