I just saw this a few days ago at my workplace:
You will need a CLEAN bucket, a small coffee can with a plastic lid, some string, a stool and thin strips of wood.
What you do is hang the coffee can from the string through the center of the bottom and lid so that it spins freely.
Tape the string to the sides of the bucket so that the can hangs below the rim of the bucket. Place the bucket on the stool so that the bucket is level with a counter top.
Build a bridge from the counter to the coffee can with the wood strips so that the last strip of wood is about a third of the way across the can.
Now all you need is a piece of cracker or cheese or whatever on the far end of the can.
When the mouse crosses the bridge onto the can, the can will spin and dump the mouse into the bottom of the bucket.
THUNK!!!!
If the sides of the bucket are clean the mouse won't be able to climb out, and will be stuck there until you release him.

I know this works on rats. I had a freind who did it with a rat that he couldn't catch an any other type of trap! He tried everything (even the sticky pads, and spring traps with food, the food was always gone and the trap was left un sprung).
Take a can and take both ends off of it. Place a dowel (round piece of wood) in the center. Place it over a bucket (the bucket should be rather deep) and put enough water in it so the mouse won't drown, but can't jump. Apply peanut butter to the outside of the can. Place another piece of wood that makes a ramp to the top of the bucket. It shoudl be placed in such a way so that the mouce can just reach it, but will lose his balance and fall. This along with the live catch cages are the best way to do it if you don't want to kill it.

Walmart sells a humane trap called a Mouse Cube for under $2.00
You can also get a Victor Tin Cat trap which catches several mice. These are $10-15
For bait a little peanut butter on a slice of apple is good. Just be sure to check it daily so the mouse doesn't die.

We've successfully used humane traps to catch mice, using peanut butter, cheese and different small animal treats as bait. Peanut butter seems to work the best, especially if combined with one of the other two. There are several types and sizes of humane traps, available at many stores (Wal-Mart, hardware stores, farm co-op stores, online at animal rights sites). Use a few different types of traps around the house to see which ones work best for your mice. Leave a little bit of bait around the traps as well as the bait inside of them, so that the mice will be attracted to the trap area and get a taste of the goods so they'll want to go in for more. Don't forget to check the traps every day, or any mice who get trapped might starve/dehydrate and die. Also, replace the bait every few days.
Very important!! When you release the mice from your traps, drive them a good distance away from your house first (5 km or more). Otherwise, you will soon end up with the same mice trying to sneak back in your house. After the mousies have departed, wash out those traps well before rebaiting and using them again, or they'll smell like scared mouse/mouse pee - not encouraging to other mice thinking of going for the bait).
Here are some other tips for keeping your house mouse-free:
The little rodents are getting in from somewhere, so check everywhere around and inside your house for holes in walls, cupboards, closets, floorboards, under sinks, and for gaps under doors to outside. Fill in any holes or gaps that you find (for areas that aren't very visible, spray-in foam insulation that hardens when it dries works well - available at hardware stores). Also, I have read that the smell of pepperment deters mice, so try leaving out some fresh pepperment leaves in some water. If you know someone who has a cat, ask for some cat hair that has been left on furniture, etc., and leave a few little bits of it in hidden areas around your house (just the smell of a cat can also drive mice away).
It's great that people are now looking for humane ways of solving this old problem. Good luck! The mice thank you!

We once bought a metal trap than when tripped pushed the mouse into a box at the back. You could then go and release the mouse. I recommend doing this in a wild area far from your home.
We got the trap from a pest service but it took many tries and dumbfounded looks (by the pest services) before we found it.

You can use a glue trap and release it. but you have to get to the mouse immediately and use babyoil and pour over its feet. It works. We used these to catch a mouse. Needless to say the cats got stuck and we had to release them. Didn't ever catch the mouse with the trap. The cat finally caught him in the closet. Smart Mouse played dead with cat hovering over him. I quickly retrieved 2 Dixie cups and scooped up mouse and put in woods across the street from neighbors LOL

I just went through this a few months ago..lol...There are "humane traps" you can buy and they are pretty cheap...ask you local pet store or even your local exterminator may have them....you place them along the wall and the mouse enters through the hole and then cant find his way out...you dont even need to bait them....however, this method can take a very long time as the mouse kinda runs into the trap mostly by luck...they are small metal cages....but I applaud you for your choice...good luck!!! Yes Tractor Supply and Northern Equipment both sell mouse traps that catch mice with out hurting them. Once caught you have someone you totally dislike and want to get even with, you take the mouse to their house and release it.
