Hi, I know how you feel. I'm Canadian too (living just outside of Montreal) and I also miscarried my first pregnancy, at about 10 weeks.
I've been lucky about getting in to see doctors though, especially since when I got pregnant, BOTH times, I had no regular OB-GYN.
It helps a lot if you have a regular OB-GYN that you go to, as you can then just schedule yourself an appointment as usual and likely get in much quicker than a new patient would.
If you have a regular GP or family doctor who's good (which is what I did last time) have him refer you to a good OB-GYN. That way not only are you assured a good doctor, but there's also a chance you'll get in faster.
But in the meantime, try not to worry. There's no reason to assume your going to miscarry, and even if you do, it probably means there were problems with the baby to begin with.
And in the first trimester even if you are going to miscarry, there's really not much your doctor can do anyways, except recommend safe exercises for you, get you on good prenatal vitamins (you should already be taking some!) and get your off any medications that could be harmful. I know, it's hell waiting for the first appointment, but every woman in Canada's right there with you!
PS: Sometimes if you're unsure of your due date they'll take you in earlier for a check on measurements, or even an early ultrasound to verify this....I'm ridiculously irregular, and this was what happened to me both times, at around 10 weeks.

Go see a doctor in a hospital they will usually see you faster or find a place where you can just walk in without an appointment. If that doesnt work go to emergency room even if you are not feeling bad make something up they will check your blood and will want to make sure the baby is ok so they might do a sonogram and sent you to see a doctor within a week.

I don't know about Cananda, sorry! But I know in Wisoncsin (US) my doctor scheduled me for one appointment before I was three months for a PAP smear and pregnancy confirmation. Are you going to the same doctor the whole time? I would think the one would know your history and want you checked out. I have the same doctor and she's done awesome. Oh small tip...look for a female OB or family doctor w/ OB. Females are MUCH better at understanding the feelings and things your going through. My doctor actually miscarried once, and she knows the feeling of being scared and worried and ALWAYS gets things checked in a hurry! Good Luck!

That seems wrong.I am now 25 weeks pregnant and my first appointment was at 6 weeks. They took blood tests and say my progesterone levels were low and started me immediately on progesterone otherwise I probably would have miscarried too.I had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks just to make sure the baby was doing well. That is so strange they won't even see you until 12 weeks.I live in the USA so they may do things different in Canada-I don't know.At least start taking pre-natel vitamins if you are not already-you and your baby really need them!

Well, I certainly do not understand and find it extremely irresponsible of them not to see you!! I myself had my first pregnancy without ALMOST any event. I even got to see my doctor at 6 weeks and saw heartbeat then, after that I had a little bleeding and had to go in again at 7 1/2 and 10 weeks then I heard he heartbeat. My second pregnancy happened to be ectopic and we didn't know it. I went to the doctor and he did a sonogram and there we found out, at 7 weeks! He said to come in as soon as I missed my period the next time, just in case.
I know it wouldn't be true, and I certainly do not wish this on anyone, but you could tell them you had a previous ectopic and then they might take you since there is a very high risk of a repeat ectopic. Make sure you read up on ectopics before you go though!! If you prefer not to lie, then go to a high risk pregnancy specialist.

Go to a different Dr!!!!! Please please go to a different Dr. Please keep trying. Please don't give up. That is all I can say. You might call a different Dr and tell them that you have NO idea how pregnant you are, that your periods were irregular; thing is, many dr's will get a little ultrasound just to determine due date. Swear you had no periods or something like that and that it's been months and you have no idea. A miscarrige at 13 wks is a big deal. I wish I knew the Canada system so I could help more, but I know here in the US if you say you have no idea when your last period was they will have to check you out.
I'll pray for you.

I'm upset readin to this. I'm so sorry to hear how people get such an awful treatment on public health care. You need proper care and advice now and all they can say is that? I got to see a dr right away but I'm in a different situation than yours...I see a private dr but only because my husband's company (where he works) pays for it.....Just try to becareful while you get an appt. Don't lift any heavy objects...try to hold the sex just from now, eat healthy, take folic acid and prenatal vitamins and try to be relax and don't stress over anything. That's my advice so that you go on with your pg while those $%(() get you in. Good luck this time honey.

Darling...I am not sure what to tell you. I made an appt. the day after I took my pregnancy test and it was positive. If they could not fit me in for two weeks...I tried another doctor. The second one I called saw me two days later. I am not sure about the health care system...but I know that is why I dont ever want the US to go to that system!!! Do you have a ER you can go too?? I dont know...tell them you have cramps, you know you are pregnant, but you have had bad cramps. At least then you can be seen, and have an ultrasound!!!
Good luck honey!!!

that must be the way things work in canada, i was in for an ultrasound at 5 weeks pregnant and getting another one at 8 weeks, plus 2 nurses checkups and a doctor workup on my 10th week. I am really sorry that it is this way for you, it must be very frustrating, I would call your government offices and see what you can do to make a change.

Maybe the Canadian health system works differently than here in the States. I've been told by a few different OB/GYNs that as soon as I get a positive hpt, I can make an appointment to see someone straight away.
