Second wife of Henry VIII, she was born either at Blickling or at Hever Castle - dates are disputed, either 1500/1 or 1507/9.
She spent her youth at the French court, where she acquired polish and style. She then came to the English court where, with her black eyes and charisma, she caught the eye of the king, who was married to Katherine of Aragon.
Henry courted her, but Anne held out for the crown; she didn't want to be a mistress. The king engineered a divorce from Katherine (very difficult: see the King's Great Matter and the Break from Rome) and finally married Anne in 1533. She was already pregnant with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was born in September, 1533. The king wanted sons, and Anne couldn't give them to her husband. She had miscarriages. With that, and her volatile, feisty temperament, the king grew tired of her; his eye fell on Jane Seymour, and he began to court that lady.
Anne was plotted against; the king finally "believed" that she was guilty of the charges of treason, incest and witchcraft that were cooked up against her, and had her beheaded by the sword at the Tower of London in May, 1536.
She was buried at the chapel in the Tower, St Peter ad Vincula, "the saddest place on earth".

just to add on to sybaris, annes sister mary, was previously henrys mistress. anne managed to hold him off for something like 6 years, before giving in.
anne was also never describe as "beautiful". she was clever, witty, intelligent, amusing, etc but never beautiful. her eyes were really her most attractive feature...that and the rumour that she had a sixth finger
when anne became queen, she also made sure that there were no pretty girls as her ladies-in-waiting, as she was afraid that she would lose henry the same way katherine lost henry. but she underestimated jane seymours appeal.
also the charges against her were most likely bogus (they said that she had an affair with her own brother) and were an excuse to get rid of her.
