Has any Plumber found a lot of iron fillings or small metal shavings blocking a new heating system...Rad make?

do you mean caught in the filter, or keeping the fan from rotating.

usually in wet pipework i.e heating/hot water, the only thing metalliic would be solder which is left after joints are soldered. if you suspect rust (called electrolosis) which is common in older systems, the water colour will be like gravy or blacker but no real solid pieces, Put a one litre bottle of Sentinel X400 into the system and allow it to run for 2/3 weeks, then drain off, refill system and add sentinel X100 ...Problem solved
