Like most 80's cartoons it was made to sell a toy first and to teach children about caring second. I once asked my Mom if Care Bears were real like the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus?

Yeah man. you could buy a collection of bears that all had the different logos on the front. They used to hold hands and say "we care" (the tv show, not the cuddly bears)

Haha that reminds me. We were driving past a factory with my 3 year old and he asked what the smoke was. I said "pollution" and he looked at me funny so I just said it was a cloud making factory and that's where the Care Bears work. He wanted to go in.

Oh, I remember! I had the bedsheet for it, even the throw cover! I remember Lionheart and Tenderheart, and those two little cub bears. Then there was Shriek (I think that was her name), and that little alien looking dude that hung out with her.. ah.. good ole' days of innocence!

I don't think it was serious at all. I think it was harmless childhood fun and helped children appreciate the values of caring and loving other people. Why?

I remember them, they were so awful, I probs just think that cos I'm a teenager!! LOL.
Seriously, I knew a 6yr girl, and when she saw them she flipped over because they "were rubbish"

yes, I had carebear sheets :) Its back on now. My 3 year old neice watches it. They sell the care bears and carebear stuff too.
