My grandparents named my aunt & uncle, gay & guy. How bad is that? Even worse, my aunt married a guy with the last name cox !!! I would not have taken his last name on in a million years!!! I don't think she's overly brain powered though. I do know that they are portugese, this name I think is acceptable in other cultures. So maybe it's kinda like how people call their kids brother or sister here in the US, but they actually give that person the name for real.

Actually it is derived from the name "Gui" short for Guiermo but "Americanization" has muddled the prounciation. The only time I ever heard of that name was in the book/movie "Rosemary's Baby" back in the 60s, the main character's husband's name was "Guy"

well , I no this kid whose name is paul and he hates the name paul so he told everyone to call him 'guy' and he would get really mad at anyone who called him paul so then now the name 'guy' is really his name I guess. No one ever calls him paul unless they want to annoy him.
I however, do not find this name quite common, but I have heard of one or two people with this nickname. Not as a real name though.

like Johny Cash's song " anything but SUE"
they must have though their son was not going to be able to remember his name..and they did not want him getting into trouble or get lost..
so hey must have figured that if the name him GUY, when some one yells hey guy watch to for the train or moving truck coming down the street, he would look up and their son would ALWAYS be SAFE...
see there is a reason for a lot of stuff..just have to look hard enough I guess.....

good luck
