At the time it was written, that statement only applied to white men. It didn't include anyone of color and it didn't include women. For the most part, it only included land owners.
It depends on what is meant by the term "created equal." If the term is meant to describe equality in goverment, then I would state that many societies in the world today are very near that ideal of all humans being equal with respect to the law and the governance of their society.
However, it is ridiculous to think that in reality all people are equal in all regards. Many people are smarter, many people are faster, some are taller, some can see better, some have better talents as artists, some are stronger in muscle. Each of these leads to life pursuits that can reward people for their efforts, so some will be wealthy while others will be subject to poverty. So equality doesn't exist anywhere except with respect to the law and governance.

I don't believe that was ever true. We all have different abilities. And it's a lot of BS with "different but equal". Some abilities are better than others and it even appears to me that some people are totally devoid of any abilities (whether naturally so or due to environment is unimportant). We must structure society so that we reward those that have more to offer while protecting those that don't from abuse and being taken advantage of by others. This is why a capitalist/democratic society like the US excels in all aspects. I believer that all men are equal not because they are made that way but because God loves us the same.

The quote was not true at the time it was written. Slavery was legal and religious discrimination was the norm. In England Jews could not be elected to parliment and Catholics were forbidden to hold government offices.
It is not true today. With the disparity in income someone born in the developed world has a far higher chance of surviving and getting an education. Millionaires children are far more likeely to end up rich than the offspring of poor people.

In the Laws of Nature all men are created equal. That was originally a Roman Law Dictum that has been plagued by racism nationalism and class economics ever since.

Yes we are all equal. Our differences make us the same. We all can't be artist! Imagine if we were all good at the same thing!
And IQ level has nothing to with equal. That is some thing else.
If you believe that the human race was just lucky to have evolved out of primordial slime and some evolved wrong, then of course we are unequal! But if you believe that we were born to live- created to live life; that we deserve happiness, love, respect, and freedom to live life instead of being a slave which is not living in any other way then basic cellular processes, then yes we are created equal.
Even though the gene pool has been perverted over time and there has been consequences for man messing with gods laws of the earth men are still equal
Edit in respone to other answers: socio/economical status has nothing to do with being created equal. That has to do with economics and selfishness. Hitler was rich but he sure was not better then me or any of you
I do believe it is a dog eat dog world, survival of the fittest. But that is human nature at its worst. What you have to give to society is not the value of your net worth. It is the value of a capitalist system that wants to eat you for dinner. If someone can contribute more to society then another then they should and are responsible to do so.When a capitalist society has no need for you services any more they will spit you out of their mouth. Case in point: The USAF Vets. I take my hat off to those guys. God bless America for taking care of its own
Uless you are a selfish bast then life is not a compitition; it is a journey to live, love and be happy. And if you think it is a compition let me tell you there will always be some one better then you out there.

Historically, all men were not created equal since Jefferson had slaves when he had written that. As far as today goes, we are all unequal because we are each better at certain things. Just because we are unequal does not necessarily make it a bad thing.

No, it is not true in the same way. Today we need to say that all human beings are equal. We must extend the scope of liberty to a global community. And to do this, we must acknowledge the terrible consequences of failing to allow all people to be free through colonialism, racism, sexism and homophobia.

It is nonsense now, and was nonsense then.
People may be supposedly equal before the law, but in other respects are not, some being
cleverer,
better looking
nicer
stronger
more sensitive
etc
... than others.
Of course it's rude to make this too obvious.

It is much more true now than then when they only really meant white men with property.
But consider this: It says that all men are created equal. It doesn't ever suggest that we stay that way.
