I once had a cocker spaniel that was just all hair as a puppy. She looked like a big buff rag. Her name was Buffy.
What kind of character does the dog have?
A name should mean something, should match the dogs personality.
I once had a white dog with ginger colored spots. Her name was Ginger.
We now have a black dog that looked like a little bear when he was a puppy. The kids named him (officially) Bear the Dog. (They didn't want anyone to get scared thinking he was a real bear.) But we all call him Bear Bear.
