They have almost total power as of Jan.1 2007, will they screw this up by pushing and creating ridiculously lenient laws on immigration. The Dems finally got smart and quit pushing for tough gun control, something that has held this party back whether you believe it or not, this issue killed the Dems in most areas of the country. I'm glad they took the house and senate for obvious reasons, but will they stumble with this issue? I think so. Hopefully they will go after "Big Business" interests who created this problem in the first place rather than give amnesty to everybody and their grandmother, even a large % of hispanics agree with this, most of them educated and legal. Let's not destroy our country by getting lame on protecting our borders like Bush has, 99% of the people crossing are good, honest folks other than the fact they are breaking the law by crossing in the first place, but that 1% that crosses with bad intentions is all it will take for another horrible event to happen.

of course they will lose support. the only reason they won both houses is because lazy conservatives didnt vote. believe it or not the conservatives still outnumber the liberals... for now... but as soon as they grant amnesty for the illegals,( which is exactly what they are going to do), they will raise our taxes to pay for them. and nothing pisses off conservatives more than higher taxes. trust me it will flip flop again in 2 yrs

I hope they crack down on the businesses that hire the illegals, not the illegals themselves. The people coming across the border are mostly poor, unemployed people trying to find a way to feed their families. It's the companies/businesses that try to get rich by ripping them off any paying them under the table who are the real criminals, and they need to be treated that way.

The Wall is not the answer, though.

A progressive approach to immigration, forged by both parties, is what is required
