A simple subscript will suffice in this case. The shortcut is 'ctrl'+'='. To do more involved (and much better looking) equations, use the equation editor. This is found by going to View->Toolbars->Customize. Click on the 'Commands' tab, select the 'Insert' category, and scroll down to 'Equation Editor'. Now click on 'Equation Editor' and drag it up to your toolbar up top.
Now anytime you click on the button it will add an equation object, which is easy to use and looks very proffesional.
Its as close to LaTeX as word can get!

Yes, first you select the symbol/s you want to change. On the tool bar
click Format,
click Fonts,
click the check box subscript and
click OK.

The easiest way of toggling between normal script and subscript is by pressing Ctrl and =. Similarly you can press Ctrl, shift and = to toggle superscript and normal.

i just type it then highlight the numbers and make them text size 8 (when typing the rest in size 12)...it works good.
