Some people are so self-absorbed that they can't see the world around them. I think one day they will realize that there are more people on earth than just them.

I agree with you, I honestly believe after a certain point... one can become vane. I don't see anything wrong with going for a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant for a special ocasion, because I earned that money fair and square and I sometimes I have so many bills to pay I have to settle for rice and beans sometimes... Of course, if I hit the jackpot, I'd help the ones closest to me... who wouldn't? However even if I did have 150 million dollars like Britney Spears, or 150 billion dollars like Bill Gates, I don't think I could live with the guilt of thousands of kids dying of starvation or drinking dirty water. I don't have to save the world, but it's just morally wrong to act like it's not happening. There's a difference between eating a 50 cent twinkie and a buying a 5 million dollar mansion. Aparently, they don't notice that.

Because deep down they are insecure - no matter how much money I had, I'd never waste it like that. Many people idolise the material world, and need to get back to the basics - a trip to a third world country might open their eyes - because you see real happiness in the eyes of some of the children - well, the ones who aren't starving.

Self gratification. Why do you go and watch overpaid sports stars, or buy music, or sweets, or a mobile phone when you could give that money away?
At some stage, we have to live life for us as well, although I do appreciate your sentiment.

Everyone knows why deep inside, if you know the answer to it and you know they pass it on to their children, then you should know why they pass it on to them. It will only take a harsh situation to change people like that.

the wild world they live in makes them forget the others tragedies. i noticed a big difference between ppl live in big cities and those whom live in country. the cites always steal the pity from the ppl hearts.
