I am a democrat, though I will vote for whomever is right for the job. The democrat win was good, but even as a democrat, I worry that our country went overboard trying to correct a problem that could have been solved by calling for the removal of the President. We came from extreme right to extreme left. However, you asked and I'll try my best to give answers. We'll see if I can get 10.

1) President Bush is now in check... pun absolutely intended.
2) There is a chance for liberty for all to prevail (gay rights).
3) We have the first female speaker of the house in history - finally we have a woman in a leadership role and it shows a level of equality on the part of our country.
4) Though he swears it would have happened regardless... Rumsfield is gone.
5) It finally taught Bush that he isn't the "father" of a wayward "child".
6) We have a chance to undo some of the damage done by Bush... i.e. the closure of health clinics in 3rd world countries (run by the US Govt) because they had abortions, removal of federal aid to organizations that didn't promote abstinence, and many more.
7) We have an opportunity to make amends with the rest of the world. Yahoo had an article put out by AP that had quotes from leaders and citizens all over the world... many were finally happy to have the U.S. join the world community again.
8) We *will* be leaving Iraq since our interests in the country are changed. (i.e. Big Business)
9) The hope is that democrats will stem the increase of outsourcing to other countries (and this is a thought echoed by worried countries that may see less of American business for them to make money from).
10) We as a country will have, at last, a return to modernity. We have been behind in education for a long while now, and also falling behind in technology (such as broadband).

There are my legit answers.

1. Rumsfeld was forced to depart as a result.
2. Ms. Pelosi replaces that guy Hastert who couldn't remember the words to the Star Spangled Banner (how you can be a Republican and not know the words...shame on you Mr. Hastert.)

All the rest are what I hope will be good reasons. Washington is always Washington no matter which team has the ball...so nothing may change.
3. Bush's rampage on the environment might be slowed and best case rolled back.
4. Minimum wage will be increased. Once for every 9 times Congress raises theirs is about right...right!?!
5. Funding for the military will be slowed -- JSF 35 or F-22 or F-18 or another Virginia Class submarine oh and how about the USS George W. B. Carrier....maybe now we can cut some of the weapons and weapons systems which we don't really need.
6. A new energy policy --- we all know Dick Cheney will never reveal to the American people who he consulted in creating the mess of an energy policy we currently have, but maybe the Democrats can get the ball rolling in the right direction.
7. Illegal Immigration -- a lot of these folks were elected because they took a hard stance on this issue - let's hope they do what they promised.
8. The Budget --- good grief --- somebody needs to take Bush's checkbook away...let's hope Pelosi hides it but good.
9. Iraq - let's partition Iraq into the three parts that it already wants to be - put the boys in the Kurdish region, where we can be IED free and actually be welcomed and let the Sunnis and Shiites wipe each other out.
10. It just feels good to finally have hope again. Do we really need another reason??

Forced people to get out and vote.
Showed the politicians that our voices mattered.
It will get us out of Iraq faster.
Bush won't get to do everything he wants.
Pages will be safe from unwanted advances.
Created interest in politics for the average joe.
Will put the Democrats to the test because if they don't turn this country around fast, they're just as bad as those in office before them.
Fresh leadership is an opportunity for fresh ideas.
Tough decisions will have to be made and for new politicians, there is no better opportunity to prove themselves.
Someone to step forward and run for president from the Democratic party besides Hillary!

1) Refocusing strategy in Iraq.

2) Eliminating budget deficits, which have doubled the national debt since 2001.

3) Giving Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices.

4) Re-thinking Mexico immigration policy.

5) Killing Bush's warrantless wiretapping policy and retroactive amnesty thereupon.

6) Restoring other civil liberties that were diminished by the Patriot Act.

7) A concerted effort at eliminating our dependence on foreign oil, and on oil in general, which is something Bush and Cheney would never have taken seriously.

8) Restoring educational tax credits and educational grant funding. Fixing issues in the No Child Left Behind act.

9) A more carefully-reasoned approach to foreign policy vis-a-vis North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Palentine/Israel.

10) A reduction in spending earmarks, which have grown 270% in the past 12 years.

And there you go...

The most important thing is. The Redpublicans learned that covert actions work better than in your face insults.

The Reds will work more secretly in the future masking their actions to prevent the Blues from knowing they have conquered America.

Then one Sunday like the way Hitler attacked Russia Reds can pull the carpet out from under the Blues.

Go big Red Go

Yes, Alex, the body bags. And all the democrats can seem to come up with, in that regard, is to blame Bush.

No real answer about how to handle Iraq.

Yes, Kermit, but I know you're a Southern Democrat, and so your answer is kind of cheating.

Kermit provided 10 reasons that are adequate.

If you can provide 10 reasons why we should have kept the do-nothing Congress we had intact, I will give you ten reasons other than the ones provided by Kermit, and then you will have 20 reasons.
