I would say dogs for sure. Ever since the first days when some of their wolf ancestors began to live among our Prehistoric ancestors, humans and dogs have learned to rely on each other for companionship and security. Historically and now, we have offered dogs shelter from the elements, safety from other predators, food, and affection.

In return, dogs offer us personal security - they will often growl and position themselves between you and someone who they perceive as trying to hurt you, or even attack to defend you in extreme cases. Many large breeds of dogs especially, are solid, muscular, and have strong jaws - they are a force to be reckoned with if they attack and mean it. Dogs are so much better at smelling, seeing in the dark and hearing than we are, that we can rely on their senses and behaviour to give us information about what's around us when our own senses fail us. Many single women keep a dog because they feel safer when alone at home, out jogging, etc. when their dog is with them, and many a hiker has been warned or protected by their dogs' ability to sense wild animals. There are many cases of brave dogs waking up owners during house fires, locating lost hikers or skiers, and swimming out to save a drowning person. Dogs will often also take it upon themselves to protect your personal belongings as well as your person, even if they have not been trained to do so. Hence, often those who live in rural areas will keep a dog to protect and guard their property from intruders, as well as to warn of bears or coyotes.

There is also the emotional security aspect of what dogs offer us - dogs can easily sense when you are feeling happy, and will respond by joyously playing with you. When you are sad, they will often be close by and keeping you company, nudging you or touching you with a paw as if to reassure you and try to cheer you up. If you are angry or frustrated, your dog will often be submissive, trying to keep the peace, and maybe coming back to you with a toy or ball later, apparently trying to get you back in good spirits by taking your mind off things with a good game of fetch! It never ceases to amaze me how perceptive dogs are to our emotions, how devoted and willing to please and peacekeep they are, and how much people respond to them. Dogs simply make you feel good. Animals such as dogs can sometimes connect to those who are lonely or withdrawn, such as seniors in retirement communities or abused children, on an almost telepathic level, offering them comfort and helping them to come out of their shells.

Lastly, dogs can provide security for other family members. Breeds such as Retrievers and Labs are well known for their patience with and fondness for children. There are cases of dogs who have warned parents when babies have stopped breathing in their sleep or run home to sound an alarm when children have been injured some distance from home. When my husband was a young child, he remembers being watched closely by his family's Border Collie while he played with his brother. When they got too close to the road, their dog would "herd" them back to safety by nipping at their ankles and driving them away from the curb as though they were sheep.

Everyone has different and individual opinions, so for every opinion there is at least 1 person in the world with the opposite opinion. Therefore, it is impossible for everyone to be wrong. Everyone is wrong at some point in their life though, if thats what you meant. You're being very vague. If you're just trying to sound profound then I suggest you work on that some more.

Depends on what type of security you mean many people would use a Rottweiler dog for homes/premises but if you are talking symbolical then my animal would be a white tiger / elephant
