Why do some white pepole not like rap music. They say its talks about drugs, sex, and violence. But at the same time rock music talks about sex, violence, the devil, and other evils. I like some rock music myself and I see the same vulgar language used. I think its passed down from different white peoples familys because early rap music like N.W.A. talked about what was really happening in the streets for black people like crack, killings, rape, and racist people. The white people at that time did not want to here that so they labeled rap trash and is has been passed down to their chlidren. Thats my opinion. What do you think?

Yea I forgot. I am not a real fan of the "Dance Rap" today. Because they are not rapping about anything of purpose.

i agree with you. i agree that sometimes rap is a little vulgar, but most of the time they are talking about their lives so i don't see anything wrong with it. now i wouldn't let my child listen to some of that mess, but i still think they have a right to speak about what goes on or has gone on in their lives. people just don't really listen to what they are saying. they hear a few words and automatically judge it.

I love all music. But as my parents say, rap is in my roots, being passd down. But yes, there are, or mostly, vulgar things in any music you listen too. Instead, why not just pick and choose your music, songs that are all around positive. Listen to the lyrics, Rock has some pretty deep emotion stuff, but rap has life lyrics, a form of poetry too it. I think the rap today though is trash, old school has more meaning to it.

What the f.u.c.k. is wrong with you people ? People that rap should be looked up to by young kids. Hip Hop culture is amazing. This shows that there is a way to overcome your trials and tribulations without violence. These people are telling a story of their life and wherethey came from, and alot of young kids can relate to this. Of course there will always be a rapper that talks to much about violence, but it is the same for rock music, country music etc... This is a way for people to express themselves and should never be looked down upon. The reason some people dont understand it is simply because they do not relate to it. Like i would never listen to country music because they talk about losin your dog, your house ,your farm,i cant possibly relate to that. I can relate to Mike Jones ,back then they didnt want me but now im hot they all on me cause where i am at and what i did to get here i listen to that and feel like its my anthem.

There are a lot of people that share my view of rap
and that is that this art form is not actually music
but a type of contemporary poetry set to a musical score
It is no less valid than any art form and by its popularity alone
has a place within the spectrum of art and the artists involved in its production are most definately producing a valid product because it is found to be enjoyable and communicative to a whole myriad of people .........
They call this product music and the artists involved in it musicians when most of them do not play a musical instrument know anything at all about musical notation or are able to sing a note of melodic harmony----it is mostly spoken words which in any sense of the word is----poetry---
Also --- most of the actual --- MUSIC --- in rap is sampled out from the actual products produced by REAL musicians that very seldom even get proper credit for the music that they have produced----
The other thing that is actually quite annoying about the stuff is that it is centered around rythums that are so absolutely brain crushingly boring and repetative as to literally reminds one of a Chinese water torture-- let alone the fact that most of it is also centered around some dude talking a game of how incredibly wise and tough and cool and well hung he is to the utter demise of the rest of the world that one can't help but hope the guy actually meets with some hard fate just to teach him that he is not the actual god of the universe he's trying to convince us that he is !!!
From time to time though--- there are the bright spots---
Busta Ryhmes does this for me
some of this guys stuff just throws me in the floor
very unique perspective on life and things in general and most definately interesting to listen to --- but still--- poetry--- not music !!

I think that some people just do not like some music. I don't like rap personally, mostly because it doesn't have the sound that I like- guitars, drums, bass, crazy schizophrenics!
Also, all of the rap music I have ever heard- I would call it derogative in some way. Maybe it's just what's popular now, but to me, most rap that I have heard says that women are sex objects, money is everything, cops are bad, and drugs don't screw anything up. Maybe the classic rap didn't sound like this, but I have acquired a bad taste for rap just listening to my brother's Chamillionare.
A lot of white people I know like rap, but I'm not one of them. I prefer the drug-laced confines of Jimi Hendrix instead of Snoop Dogg or Diddy* when I need my diversity.
*Or P Diddy, or Puff Daddy, or whatever he's going by nowadays!

Hip Hop/Rap isn't what it was once, for the reason that it has come to be commercialised and formulaic (like such a lot matters on this planet of amusement). To recognize while the scene used to be particularly well and introduced real priceless messages, you will have to return to the overdue 80s and 90s - assess out men and women like Gang Starr, KRS one million, Rakim (of Eric B and Rakim reputation) and of path you recounted P.E. already, who have been huge within the contributions to the scene.

i dont actually know why some people dont like rap music but i think its probs because they think its all about drugs, sex, violence because thats what the impression that some music videos give out. but if people were to actually listen to the lyrics of certain songs they will realise its not all about that its about all different things. Its certainly not repetative but people will only realise this if they actually listen to the music properly! So i think the people who dont like it should be open minded and actually listen to it before they just decide they dont like it! :)

Many people say they don't like rap but they've never actually listened to it... its all preconceptions. But I like rap and still there's songs that are offensive to me. It's all in the message. I love Kanye, and Lupe Fiasco, and even Eminem (although some of his stuff is a little much for me.)

It's really a cultural phenomenon. Why do most black people not like country music? It's a matter of how you are raised and who your peers are.

Rap was about that, at first, much like blues. Now it and much of hip hop are about promoting and perpetuating the thug mentality - misogyny, racism, drugs, violence, male ego and crude, uninvolved sex.
