it came out recently about maybe 6 months agao or sooner than that and was a movie set in the 1940-50's and in the preview it shows them all dancing and hanging out in the club

Sounds like you are talking about Idlewild with Outkast.
Those boys rock it. Check out one of the tracks from the soundtrack called Idlewild Blues, very good song. I wouldn't say Jazz is the main focus of the movie, rather a blues joint. It's also set in the south, I do believe.

Idlewild..came out about 2 months ago. It took place in a speakeasy during the 1930's

Sounds like the film with Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor, although that is a bit older than 6 months.
