It's just too early to tell anything. Just because your last period was Sept 11 does not mean you got pregnant shortly after. Your baby is not 8 weeks old yet so they need you to come back when the babe is a bit older. Don't worry. Everything is most likely fine.

sorry you are going through this Amy - it is very scary right now but try not to panic.

the reason for going back in 10 days is to give the baby time to grow. If a sac is visible now a scan in a week to ten days should show a heart beat if all is going well.

It may be when you go back that there is nothing to see in your womb (uterus) at all. This would be because of a miscarriage. You might not get much more bleeding that just a period at this stage if this happens.

It may be when you go back that there is still a sac but the sac and what is in it has not grown and there is still no heart beat. This would be becasue of a 'missed' miscarriage (the body 'mises' the fact that there is a miscarriage and forgets to let go of baby. If this happens you will usually have the option of waiting a dew more days to see if the body realises what has happened and you miscarry normally or having a very quick very safe operation where the baby and sac is removed. This is another reason why the wait although agonising is very important - even if your hormone levels are very low (the blood pregnnacy test) it is not possible to say for sure that baby is not ok until the second scan a week later - if you have the operation to remove the sac and baby was actually just to small to see then the baby would be killed :( they have to be sure what is happening and time is the only way I'm afraid.

It may be when you go back that all is well, the sac and its contents are bigger and there may be heart beat. This is very common becasue people now know they are pregnant very early and with blood tests they can be sure you are pregnant much earlier than they can see anything at all on a scan.

I presume you went to the doctors because you had pain or bleeding. If this gets worse or restarts you must go back to the hospital to get checked out again ok?

wishing you all the best... this is very very common.. but still scary for you because it isn't something you have been through before. take care.

manchestaguy - a repeat scan now would be of no advantage which is why they have said wait 10 days. It is not a mistake or uncertainty on the scan. It is just that in early pregnancy, when you get a sac and no heartbeat you cannot tell what is happeneing for sure until you have another scan at elast a week apart.

I have had three of these. The first I lost a 12 weeks and they said the baby was only the size of a six week old. The next I found out straight away as I paid for the scans. I was afraid that is would be the same and it was. The last the same again. They had no reasons for this at all but it is really really common. I had two D & Cs but on the last one I let nature take its course. I couldn't go through another D & C. But there is good news I did fall pregant and I have a beautiful baby girl who is now 11 months. The only way I tried to get over it is that there must have been something wrong the the babies. Good luck and I hope you fall pregnant again and everything will be fine. Sorry!!!

I have read your other questions, I am 38 weeks and remember how scary it is when you first find out your pregnant. just relax the doctors will do what is right they never would have sent you home for10days if your baby had passed away. You need to relax and get plenty of rest and eat healthy. sometimes if the baby isn't in the right position or is to small it can be hard to get a reading. I was at the doctors yesterday at 38 weeks because I didn't feel my baby move for a while My mom was really worried so she took me in and they hooked me up to machines and I heard the heart beat and the nurse said I have a happy baby inside but when I changed positions while laying down The heart beat would be lost and sometimes hard to find again. so as you can see take it easy and relax they will do right by you and your baby.I promise. and if you can't relax go to the doctors they don't mind that is what they are there for. good luck and take care.

Well, there is not a lot to know at this point probably. At this point there is nothing you can do but wait and try not to worry too much. I realize that is little comfort but even with all the technology in the world there are some things that we just have to wait for. If you are really concerned then you should call your doctor and request to be seen before the 10 days is up. Other than that, I am sorry, but try to not to worry TOO much.

Did they do a regular ultrasound? Maybe then they could have measured to see how big the baby was. I am surprised you are going back in ten days...I would call him back and ask if there is additional things you can do but wait. If he says wait, then you wait...but at least try to get more out of him. I could hear the heartbeat on our guy at 9 weeks...so sweetie...something could be wrong. If you are so upset and you cannot wait...then you could always go to the hospital. They will see you and treat you...and maybe then you could feel better about it. The waiting game is hard for anyone. I am so sorry that is happening...I dont know you but I will keep you in my prayers!!!

Well, there's always the chance they could see something in 10 days, but it doesn't sound good. I'm so sorry. At 8 weeks you should be able to see a heartbeat on a vaginal scan. I would definitely prepare myself for the worst. You have my deepest sympathies.

well it is really early to tell. there is three things that could be happening.

1. the baby is not old enough yet to have a heart beat
2. your baby has passed away.
3. the baby is just hiding the heart beat behind one of your many organs.

wait for 10 days and go back. then if they can get a heart beat then congrats. If not then I am sorry for your loss.

while it devolps a heartbeat and while that is heard with the help of a doctor are 2 countless issues. i've got faith (nut must be incorrect)an embryo develops a heart that beats interior of four-6 weeks. yet even at 12 weeks the nurse in ER had a puzzling time listening to my toddler's heartbeat.
