Well, whoever automatically correlates the two may never learn.
They may be rascist or just uneducated. I think all you can do is try to tell them. I feel really bad for you that you have to deal with that kind of treatment.

I take it your have a problem finding people to talk to, but racism and ethnic slurs are not the way to endear people. The people of the region in question, in most cases can pass in and out of either country as either Pakistani or Afghani. They better have their "paper" ready.
