I think you are right by turning on the fan and opening the door, this would allow air to circulate and reduce humidity--mold needs moisture. You could from time to time wash the ceiling with bleachwater, which would kill off any spores that lodge there. Replace the ceiling fan with a stronger more effective model. Spray the ceiling with Lysol or some other antifungal spray after showering. What kind of paint is on the ceiling...I believe you will find that if its latex paint it makes a better surface for growing mold, maybe repaint the ceiling with an enamel.
PS--Lawyer here, your landlord is not responsible for removing mold.

mildew spores are interior the air. some issues I found out are retaining a squigee and spray bottle of bleach /water interior the tub ,additionally a scrubber sponge . If I truthfully have time I scrub somewhat jointly as I bathe ,not plenty in basic terms a small section every time . you are able to scrub the floor mutually with your feet=) . while achieved , I squigee extra water away then spray a layer of bleach water to dry . don't be fooled into paying for "particular" products, they're merely bleach in a severe priced equipment. merely get bleach. For the ceiling fan, make confident its in good working order. If the exhaust positioned up is clogged with airborne dirt and mud your bathing room wil stay moist, a breeding floor for mildew. I take off the grill and fan blade . Vacuum all components and the exhaust hollow. while changing , make confident all the climate are lubed and tight. A unfastened fan mount or blade will make all varieties of racket . If the tub fan continues to be not sufficient , place a floor fan interior the doorway for 30 minutes or so. this could do the Trick

Look for a product called X-14. I get it at Ace Hardware. Spray it on and the mold will be gone. Bit keep it away from all clothing, towels and such. It is a very strong bleach. And don't get the scented kind, it only works about half as well. Once the mold is gone, keep it away by following the suggestions already made!

Don't close the door; that limits the air flow. You need to circulate the air as much as possible to dry it out in there. You can also help the situation by drying the walls of your shower every time you use it, so that moisture doesn't go into the air. If you HAVE mold, you should notify your landlord immediately. They are responsible for removing it, but it should be done as quickly as possible once it is spotted.

Keep the bathroom window open, and use bleach to wipe the ceiling sometimes. Ventilation keeps mold away. Mold grows in damp places.

In addition to some of the comments above, I would ask the landlord to fix the ceiling fan.

swipe it semi dry with your towel after you shower. open the window if there is one and it's not too cold outside. basically gotta increase the ventilation. open door seems more sensible to me.
