You definitely should get something cool off of their registry if they have one, because that's the stuff they want and really need, but then you could also pick out something personal from you to add to it, like a monogrammed baby blanket or a super cuddly bear...or a really precious baby boy outfit because those are so fun to pick out. :)

Get the parents things that will save them time from running to the store. Beleive me, they will LOVE you for it as they will be running all the time in between trying to get some sleep.

Find out if the Mom plans on bottle or breast feeding. Then, fill up a gift bag, or small sized laundry basket with the following:

Bottles
lap pads (these were a lifesaver for me as I had a few leaky diapers)
diapers
wipes
diaper rash cream
Infant Tylenol
Infant Mylecon (gas drops)
baby wash
baby shampoo
washcloths
lotion
powder

YAY I have been waiting for someone to ask this question as I got the best babyshower gift. I got it form my cousin and his fiance. My cousin passed away the week before my babyshower and his fiance still came so that made the gift all that much more special. They got a little tubbaware and got a clothes line with pins on they end they tied a folded blanket. Then on the line they put a bunch of clothes like if you were hanging laundry. So while I was pulling the string out it was never ending clothes. It doesn't have to be so expensive either (although theirs was it was all carters clothing) but it was outfits they just seperated it by the pins. Iike the shirt on one pin, pantsn bib, socks all on seperate pins. Everyone at my babyshower loved it. It took about three people to hold it as the string just keep going and going I loved it. Good luck

People always give those precious little clothes that Maybe get worn once! What a waste!

I always get the same thing for boys or girls. A diaper pail filled with all the little things you need every day. Wash cloths, wipes, pacifiers, bottles, bibs, diapers, burp pads, baby powder, lotion.........the list can be endless! It is always a wonderful gift and you can never have too many!

i think good shower gifts are things that the mom will need right away. cloth diapers are wonderful when used as burp cloths because the burp cloths they sell are very thin. bottles are good. or maybe a health/ safety kit with nail clippes, hairbrush etc... onsies or layettes because the baby doesnt really need dressy clothes during the first few weeks since they arent going anywhere. its good ot buy practical gifts the mother will really get some use out of.

In my opinion the best gift u can give are ones that are really practical. At my shower I received a lot of cute clothes but she never got to wear any of them. Wrong size at wrong time, or to hot or to cold to wear it, then by the next season their grown out of it. The best gifts to give are things like a pack of onsies, sometimes it seems like my daughter lives in onsies. I received a gift basket someone made me and its been a life saver. It had lotion, baby powder, baby oil, q-tips, cloth diapers, receiving blanket, thermometer, diaper rash cream, all sorts of little things that have come in so handy. Diapers too. U can never have enough diapers, in all diff. sizes cause their bound to fit sometime.

I love to give "The Giving Tree", a book by Shel Silverstein. I also love to wrap baby gifts in a receiving blanket and attach a rattle/teether as the bow...3 gifts in 1 :)

Ask the parents if they're registered anywhere. Most likely they have a baby gift registery somewhere and that'll make your shopping a lot easier!

a baby bath tub with towels, wash cloths, a baby robe, brush comb, lotion, baby shampoo, baby wash, a rubber duckie etc. Just get those items and put them in the baby bath tub and put a big bow on it.
