they should give you one at your 38 weeks visit. that's when i had mine which was actually yesterday. i am not dilated and i am actually probably 39 weeks but i am 50 % effaced. i know what you mean about wanting to be clean because i made sure and took a shower right before i went, not that i don't take one everyday anyways.

My doctor started at 36 weeks but I had lost my mucus plug at 34 weeks so I was being watch for preterm labor. Plus my mom came with me and asked the doctor when he would start checking and he said he could start checking.
Call your doctor and ask when s/he starts checking. I always make sure I am well clean and groomed down there you never know if something is going to come up and they need to check you out.

When you go to your doctor's visits, they should be checking you. Mine started checking around 37 to 38 weeks (when I started to see them every week). You are definitely in the countdown stage. Don't be surprised if they check you on your next visit and they tell you that you have started to dilate. Take a shower each morning and you won't have anything to worry about.

I think the doctor will probably let you know when they intend to have a bit of a rummage down below. They have long since stopped just jumping out to give surprise examinations. It will be soon - very soon...

My gynecologist examined me at 36 weeks. I was glad that she did, because I gave birth 3 days later.

Its the same exam they give when you go for your check ups not a different one. They will check you lots of times before you have your baby unless you are lucky enough to have go realy fast.

My Dr. told me they would start exams like that around 36 weeks. You should be prepared for it any time now!
