To the one who gave the "New York" answer, you obviously dont live in NY. lol :-)
I think Georgia is a good place. (You can get a 3 bedroom house for rent even and pay 800 per month, in new york, it would cost at least 1900 per month.)
NY is very expensive, the best way to find out is to call the hud office in a particular state and find out what housing rates are--or fair market prices, the exact term.
That will give you a better idea, and if you dont live in new york, dont move to new york. It is verrrry expensive.

Small town where you can get around with limited or no transportation is best. I am disabled and live in Houston---transportation is a major expense---have to drive everywhere I go.

i don't know how limited your income is, but try North Carolina....It's beautiful and compared to NYC where i live it is ALOT less expensive to live...
