It depends, some people eat thanksgiving dinner around 1-2pm so they can nap after eating to much but other people like to have evening parties. If it was me I'd go for the 1-2pm so that you can do whatever after you eat while it's still light outside. Whether its hanging out with the family or going to see a movie.

Early afternoon is most common, at least in my experience. 4 pm at the latest. Most people don't eat very much before the big dinner, so they are STARVING by meal time. You don't want to keep them waiting too long, or people get ornery. Also, don't serve a bazillion appetizers, or people will fill up on those and don't want to eat the food you spent 2 days preparing. I learned that the hard way.

I've never understood eating at non-mealtime hours. My family always eats Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at noon, not off-times. Then dessert is served later in the evening.

However "dinner" means that it is the last meal of the day, which is anywhere from 5-7pm.

Do whatever works best for you.

Used 2 b earlier afternoon e.g. 2ish; however now it's closer to our normal dinner time or a bit earlier: circa 4:00-5:00. But that's mostly b/c of da kidz & their schedule of eating at 5... it should be noted that CDN Thanksgiving is in Oct on a Mon, thus no NFL games on!

Most people eat a little early based on when they regularly eat. If you eat dinner at 6 or 7 then you have Thanksgiving dinner around 4 or 5 PM. My mother always wants to eat at 2PM and no one wants that. So we usually eat at 4-5PM. I know people who eat at 8 or 9PM regularly and the like their Thanksgiving dinner at 6or 7PM But most folks eat earlier and then make sandwiches if they are still hungry. Triptofan usually knocks everyone out.

Our family always eats around 1pm. Dessert later in the afternoon and then leftovers at the end of the day...

My family liked to eat around 2 growing up. Friends I know who are rich love to have Thanksgiving at 7. For some reason I think it's because they are rich.

I think 2:00 is good because then you don't need to eat for the rest of the day. Then you can lay around and chill.

My family usually eats at 2:00 or 3:00, so you can take a walk after all the festivities before it gets dark.
