Your question is the dream of American Communists who continue to insist - nearly two decades after the fall of the Soviet Union - that Communism didn't fail it was just never really tried. I think they all need to take another long hit on their bong and move on. Human beings are social creatures, but basically interested in self-preservation, we will never submit our individuality to the will of a collective and adopt a hive mentality. Which is the reason that our system, for all its flaws, is the most successful in the history of the world. It's the most natural state for human beings in which to prosper.

No! true communism as described by Marx has never been done, because of how complicated it is. The redistribution of assets completely is virtually impossible, and those who have tried to reach that lofty goal have fallen short and created massive bureaucracy and a ruling class that is higher then the working class something that in true communism would be equal. A true communist government has no true leader and it has been proposed that everyone would rotate the leadership positions. Those who call what they have Communism are full of it.

Um, yes... (ie Russia, China, Cuba, etc...)

In many ways, communism, in THEORY at least, is a pretty good idea. I mean who wouldn't' want REAL equality and egalitarianism. The problem is that we cannot hope to put into practice in this world because we human beings are TOO SELFISH. So what ends up happening is not really communism but usually a despotic fascist regime that seeks to keep its people down instead of lifting them ALL up...

Sad really... but true.

It has one fatal flaw. That is, it assumes that people will choose what is best for them. The human race is imperfect to say the least, making the best decision based on marxist theory is tripe. A lot of people will do something very contrary to what is expected and certainly not in their best interests. I have dabbled in left wing politics for more years than I care to mention, I have found that the great majority of people there are either mad, bad or sad, especial;ly in the SWP. They judge people by their conformity to the recieved party line, not from what sort of people they are. The women on the left are a lot nastier than the men in this respect.

Its been tried and failed miserable. It's great in theory but it requires people to be selfless. Humans are naturally selfish so in practise it doesn't work
