It's by and large because of their religious convictions. Their god tells them that homosexuality is bad and they accept it unquestioningly. Some people just find it "icky" and decide to reject it on that reaction alone. Some others act in similar ways to extreme racists... they believe every horror story, every bit of condemning research (most of which is either outright false or unbiased), every stereotype. They live to hate.

Well actually it DOES make us different. Of course "different" means "scary" in most people's minds.

But the truth is, we are different. We have different sexual attractions. Yes, that makes us different. It doesn't make us
"Bad" as so many associate being homosexual with being a pedophile. THIS IS SIMPLY DISGUSTING, RUDE, AND ABOVE ALL...WRONG.

Gays and lesbians are NO MORE likely to be pedophiles than are heterosexuals...
As a matter of fact most pedophiles are HETEROSEXUAL MALES!
Usually Related to their victims.

It's the Stereotypes, the misinformation and flat out lies that is most insulting. We're not perverts, freaks, degenerates, devients, or molesters.
GODS I'm so sick of that rap.

Just because some twisted individuals make headline news doesn't mean those are the ONLY ones out there. Those sick few are the WORST of the bunch and reflect badly on ALL of society.
Those like Foley and Catholic Priests.
Come on folks, take some responcibility will you!?
You all ELECTED that guy into office!!
You put him in that seat of power, but now you say "Oh, he was sick" "He was a fa^g" "He was a pedophile"

Well DUH we know that....but what's worse is YOU ALL GAVE HIM THAT POWER!
YOU all didn't do YOUR homework.
YOU all allowed that pervert into office in OUR Government!

No, I take no responcibility for that screw up! NOR do I want to hear anymore associating him with the GLBT Community!

A lot of this is religious as well. There are many very pious people out there and they believe that their religion specifically bans homosexuality. For those people, they cannot understand things that exist differently than what their religions denote.

people are quick to form a hatred of what they do not understand. it's understandable, especially if they've had "christian fundamentalism" shoved down their throats since birth. it's really difficult to open the minds of those who've been taught the wrong things their whole lives.

Some are afraid of their own desires and act in anger to something they think they might be.

Others are just ignorant and dislike anyone or anything they do not understand.

Because people are afraid of what they don't understand. It is fear and ignorance that makes you hate people for no reason other than their sexual preference or the color of their skin or anything else.

well it does make them different, but not in a bad way by any means. most straight are just closed-minded idiots, don't listen to them.

some people have obviously had problems with gays earlier in life and that appears to have set their perception on what gays are about.
