I've actually been suicidal, but I'm blocking those thoughts and am feeling a bit better just now. My parents don't believe in mental illness, only physical illness. But I hate physical excuses, so I need a cool reason. I like "you were so upset to hear about sadam hussein being executed" so like that!

It either has to be humorously to do with being upset, or not to do with emotions... my parents don't go for emotional things!

The school doesn't really care that I've been off, they just require a note. I've been through the psychologist thing and it didn't work.

You went for a walk in the woods and you were abducted by aliens... you can't remember anything about the last 3 days because they erased your memory. All you can remember is that one minute you were standing in a clearing looking up at some strange lights in the sky and the next minute you're 3 miles down the motorway in a service station in just your underwear, and three days have passed. You feel oddly sore in personal places upon your person. You may have been probed.

What you are describing is nothing to be joking about. If your parents don't believe in mental illness, go seek a counselor at school. You must bring your problem to the audience who will try to help you.
Make an appointment with your school counselor and tell him/her that the reason you have been out of school is you have been having suicidal thoughts and that your parents don't belive you.

Helen g (below) is right! Every school (?) has a counselor or a nurse or a doctor. Get Them To Write the Note! Better now than After Something Terrible Happens!

You were so upset about the Republicans winning the election that you couldn't sleep because you were afraid the army was going to have a coup and take over the country.

I think you should be assertive, and say you felt suicidal. Refuse to give any other reason, and your parents will have to believe you eventually, and then they might actually help you.
But don't rely on them to come round: go see your doctor about therapy and happy pills. Then you could get the doctor to write the note, and bypass parents all together.
