I'm at university in london and am currently feeling quite down. I miss home, my boyfriend and my friends, and the workload I have means I'm always studying. Can you give me any suggestions on what I can do to cheer myself up and stop feeling so stressed?
Any answers are welcome, no matter how silly, I could do with a laugh.

i decided to cheer myself up earlier this week by running a bubble bath and whilst it was running i covered myself in the body mud - omg!! - took me 3 baths to get rid of it off my skin and half an hour to clean the bathroom - had forgotten what was bugging me beforehand tho!
take time out from studies just to look after you - something to eat, something (other than coursework) to read, warm bath, early night - you are worth it hunny
good luck xx

Hello Beth - sounds like money is scarce, alcohol is a no-no if you're studying and time differences may not make it that easy to call home? I work with the elderly community in Sydney, and my suggestions to them would probably appeal to you too! Your self esteem is not the best at the moment because you feel so isolated from things you love and know best. Try to focus on the reason you are in London at Uni... to achieve a goal, right? But all work and no fun, - isn't healthy and won't help you get to your goal. So... Mark special dates down on your calendar in big print; and send someone a card; letter; etc. Hop on a bus and go for a ride - into the countryside, or across to another town, and have a day of getting to know that place. If you like it - you can go back to it when you feel lonely or frustrated. Does that make sense?? Cheers Kerry xx

Well if you want to keep up with your work and your emotions try looking for other ways. Try calling you friends and have a good talk with them. Sometimes a quick conversation will smoothen things a little. Or if you have there yahoo's then you can also try web cam. You can still find ways to keep in touch. After that, try taking a break and having some fun. London is a fantastic place to go sight seeing and other stuff. Take advantage of everything. Try thinking out of the box.

Go shopping, even if you just buy some lipstick. It's fun and time consuming to window shop. Also, go find a McDonald's and get yourself a hot fudge sundae. They are very low in fat, and that always make me happy. Here's a little joke to help you cheer up!!!!!

There was a perfect man and a perfect woman. They met each other at a perfect party. They dated for two perfect years. They had the perfect wedding and the perfect honeymoon. They had two perfect children.
One day the perfect man and the perfect woman were driving in there perfect car, they saw Santa Claus at the side of the road, being the perfect people they were they picked him up, because they didn't want to make their perfect children (who were at home with their perfect babysitter) mad because it was close to Christmas.

Well as the perfect man and the perfect woman were driving with Santa Claus, somehow they got into an accident. Two people died and 1 lived.

Who lived?

The perfect woman because the perfect man and Santa Claus don't exist.

Ok chick, take it from a girl that knows what she is talking about.
I would suggest renting a funny movie, and watch it alone.... Don't be afraid to laugh as loud as you would like, there is nobody else there right? .......
After you do that...
Order a pizza and watch a drama.. Laugh and cry and get all your emotions out..... Then call your family and tell them that you miss them, and that you can't wait to see them for the holidays...
After you do that run a bubble bath, lots of bubbles... (Don't use bubble bath) That won't be alot of bubbles. IF you want a lot of bubbles, use dish washing detergent. Light some candles and incence, sit in the tub for an hour relax, shave your legs, mope... Whatever you need to do.
Then call all your friends for a night on the town......
You're doing everything you wanted to do now.
Then I would suggest being bold with your makeup and style.
Be the best looking chick there......
And every guy that hits on you of looks at you act like your not interested.....
Make them beg to spend some time with you.
Make them take you out shopping, for expensive coffee or whatever....
Then if you really like the guy keep him around and take him to meet your family when you go....
I really hope I was of some help to you.
Good luck and take care.

You could put all your study questions on Yahoo answers. See what everyone else has to say about what you need to study take a break from everything when your done chill out treat yourself to a cup of tea. reform your thoughts and come back check out what everyone had to say about your study questions and read up on those areas and see how they did this will make you learn what you need and give you a break all in the same......By the way take a sec just one sec Smile look around and realize what you have is not that bad in fact it is great. Keep your head up

one day week take off do only stuff u like doing. Do something that'll make u feel like ur family is right beside u.

A rabbit hops into a butchers' shop and says "have you got any cabbages?"

The butcher says that he doesn't sell cabbages and the rabbit hops off. The next day the same rabbit hops into the same butchers and says, "have you got any cabbages?"

The butcher, getting annoyed, says "look I told you yesterday - I'm a butcher, I don't sell cabbages, now go away!"

The rabbit hops off. But the next day it hops into the butchers again and again asks "have you got any cabbages?"

The butcher, really annoyed now, snaps "No I haven't got any damn cabbages! If you come in here again asking for cabbages I'm will nail your ears to the floor!"

The rabbit is scared by this and quickly hops out the door.

The next day it hops into the butchers and asks "have you got any nails?"

The butcher replies angrily, "NO"

“Okay,” says the rabbit with a grin, "what about cabbages?"

Brainstorm - list things that make you feel happy, then include them in your life.

Exercise, including dance, social relationships, laughter and smiling are very beneficial so a walk in the park or countryside with a special friend is good.

Drugs, drink, smoking, shopping and eating junk food may be temporary fixes but don't work in the long run and can be very harmful.

I know it sounds silly, but just get out and go for a walk. It will help a little. Also, whenever you finish something, reward yourself with something frivolous. When I was in college, and had papers and exams, I used to take my kids out for an Ice cream cone every time I felt overwhelmed or finished a paper. It also helps if you can find at least one person to do things with on your down time.

Go out to see a movie with a friend, join a student society or group at your UNI, plan your studies and don't leave things near to the dead line date, so the stress will be minimum.
Go for a walk.
