I'm 8 weeks pregnant with #3 and have had reflux for more than 5 years now. I took prilosec before I got pregnant this time, but stopped as soon as I found out about this baby. I know that heartburn is normal durring pregnancy but this is NOT just any heartburn. I feel like my belly and chest is on fire. It is not just at night, It is just about all the time, and it doesnot seem to matter what I eat. My Doc approved Zantac but it does not seem to help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have always had acid reflux, and have had stomach ulcers and everything else imaginable before the baby...when I was 9 weeks...I did not have morning sickness, I had acid reflux!!! I would lay in bed at night groaning, it hurt so bad. There are several things I did that helped...but know that these will not get rid of it totally...only time will.

- Used Tums like they were candy. You can chew them as much as you want...my doctor said I did not have to follow the directions on the bottle. I became a Tums junky!!! There are some really good tasyt kinds, chewy and hard, I alternated between them. Plus they are high in calcium...which is good for you and baby.

- Dont eat anything that is spicy...so no mexcian resturants!!! Also aviod anything with tomato base, like sauce. Tomatoes are acidic and will make it worse!!!

- Drink Milk like you own your own cow!!! Seriously...you need to drink tons of milk at night. I started drinking it at about 7pm every night. I would drink about 5 glasses a night. I would switch it up too...chocolate milk, strawberry milk, regular milk. Just make sure it is fat free or skim...so you dont have to worry about pounds. Also...ice cream will help...it is milk based. You will begin to hate milk after this!!!! I had to do it for three weeks stright...and just now at 17 weeks am I back to drinking it. I was all milked out!!! But it helped...I could feel it helping as it went down.

- Aviod fruit juices. If you want to eat fruit, get apples, not oranges as they will have more juice.

- Eat before or around 5 or 6 pm. Dont eat dinner after 7pm. I went to bed around 10:30...so you need to make sure you give yourself three hours before you go to bed, to let the food settle down. You will feel like you have a ball in your stomach. I called it the third world country syndrome. I looked like a little child who was malnutrtioned...big round belly!!! It is the bloating...it should be down every morning when you wake up.

- After you eat dinner...take a walk for about 30 minutes, dont just sit down. Standing up and walking will make the food digest faster. I know you may not feel like it but it will help you at 10pm when you are trying to go to bed!!!

Sorry...I wrote a book. That is everything I did...and it made it bearable...not 100% better, but I could live!!! It will get better!!! I have not had any heartburn since about 12 weeks.

Good luck!!!

I think tums are okay to eat as well. I'd try that as well as the zantac since they would have an immediate effect on the heartburn

Try tums with calcium. It's safe for you and the baby. It will (hopefully) help relieve your symptoms and you will have some much needed calcium.

Good luck!

Try taking a Liquid Antacid, they worked best for me. Tums didn't do anything. I always had a bottle of Mylanta or Maalox with me.

Nothing seems to work really well with acid reflux, however i just use tums, im scared to use ne thing else, especially something that needs a prescription, just me i dunno but i use tume extra strenghth or tums ultra.... Gaviscon is supposed to be really good, talk to the doctor about it!!

If it seems to affect you most at night (like it does me), try not eating/drinking anything for at least three hours before bed.
