Is it fair to the truly disabled for obese people to blow get their doctors to approve a handicap parking plate for them?

I do know for a FACT that some doctors really do approve handicap plates just for obesity. I know 10 people just off the top of my head. Some are in college and use it to park closer to class.

Obese people are people too, but yes, the fact that they are using the handicap spaces is irritating. Another thing is, if you follow the logic, alcohalics and drug addicts could get a handicap space as well because like morbidly fat people, they are living the results of their choices.

I don't think that obesity should be or is a handicap issue. They are usually obese because they have choosen to let themselves get that way. They definetly should not take up a parking spot for the handicap but rather find a spot NOT right in front of the door and get a little exercise. I am sure that there are some folks who have some type of illness or medical problem that keeps them obese and those are the only ones who have the right to a handicap parking spot.

Sometimes the disability (which you can't always see) ends up leading to the obesity. Be careful making snap judgments about ANYONE who parks in a handicapped spot. Some slim, trim folks have various ailments that make it a real hardship to walk from the far end of the parking lot. I doubt the doctor signed off on a placard just for obesity. You should know the whole story before condemning someone.

If they are actually disabled because of the obesity, then it does not bother me. I've also known people who are actually disabled first, then become obese because of lack of exercise. I've never known a doctor give a handicap placard to someone just because of their weight.

It makes me mad when my 76 year old mom who can hardly walk because of bone cancer has to park way out in the parking lot and fat people who are too lazy to lose weight are parked in the handicapped spaces.

Yes...morbid obesity is not a physical handicap, it's is a disease, as far as I know, if you have AIDS or Cancer you don't have a special parking spot.

If your too fat to walk a few extra paces, then you are too fat to leave your house. Stay home and order your moomoos off EBay.

Did you ever stop to consider that their disability might keep them from enjoying activities, thus contributing to their obesity? Rather than judging people you know nothing about, why not be thankful that you are neither disabled or obese? It's Thanksgiving time. Give it a try. (smile)

Anyone who's disabled enough to have the placard gets the space. Only thing bothers me is the folks who (in my town, anyway) seem to think, "Aw there's so many gimp slots they won't mind me takin' one for just a sec tuh fetch a quickee co-cola!"

Yes, I have a friend with CP and it is frustrating when the large people take the spots and you can see that they don't have a hard time walking
