I love depressing songs. They are so much more real to me than happy ones, especially when I am in that state of mind.
Oh yeah, Hurt is a good one, but I like the Johnny Cash version best.
Everybody Hurts - REM
Gloomy Sunday - Sarah MacLaughlin (sp?)
Brick - Ben Folds Five
JEFF BUCKLEY - just about anything by Jeff (Satisfied Mind, Last Goodbye, Hallelujah)
I will Follow You into the dark - Death Cab for Cutie
I am the highway - Audioslave
No Rain - Blind Melon
Something in the Way - Nirvana
The Freshman - The Verve Pipe
I am trying to break your heart - Wilco
Give My Love To Rose - Johnny Cash
And never forget: I'm so lonesome I could cry - once again I like the Johnny Cash version.

I always liked the song Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, that's pretty depressing. Or how about this one by good old Nine Inch Nails?
It's called "Right Where It Belongs", it has a nice piano in it, it's off the With Teeth album (lyrics follow).
See the animal in his cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all...Right where it belongs
What if everything around you, Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection, Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself, Find yourself afraid to see?
What if all the world's inside of your head
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you're really all alone?
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods
While you're hiding in the trees
What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection, Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself, Find yourself afraid to see?

If you really want depressing songs. Go get a lionel Richie and Dionne Warwick duel cd. I was at this office the other day and they were playing this cd and It was so depressing to me I almost asked them to put on another cd or something.
This album is from the late 70's or early 80's. And I am not sure of the woman singer. I am guessing its Dionne Warwick.

Try listening to a recording of "Gloomy Sunday" (and while you're at it, look for the movie of the same name, about the making of the song - where people were committing suicide in droves cause the song is so sad...)
If you're into classical music (romantic era) try on some Mahler. Gustav Mahler's symphonies can drive one to despair, cause that's the emotion they were written from. Mahler was a deeply melancholic man. Try #2 for example, and number 9)
Too much sad music isn't good for one. Trust me, I know this!
(Oh, additionally, I have always found k.d.lang's cd "Drag" to be pretty damn sad...)

Umm Michael Counting Crows didn't do Bittersweet Symphony that was The Verve...similar sound though.
White Roses by Information Society will have you wondering why you're even alive.
Last Day Of Summer by The Cure strikes a vein if you're approaching a milestone birthday or feel like you've run your course and there's nothing else left to enjoy also checkout Everyday Is Like Sunday by Morrisey
The Last Day of Summer by The Cure
from the cd Bloodflowers
Nothing I am
Nothing I dream
Nothing is new
Nothing I think or believe in or say
Nothing is true
It used to be so easy
I never even tried
Yeah, it used to be so easy...
But the last day of summer never felt so cold
The last day of summer never felt so old
Never felt so...
All that I have
All that I hold
All that is wrong
All that I feel for or trust in or love
All that is gone
It used to be so easy
I never even tried
Yeah, it used to be so easy...
But the last day of summer never felt so cold
The last day of summer never felt so old
The last day of summer never felt so cold
Never felt so...

I think you need to talk with someone and/or listen to something happy. It sounds like you are already depressed - so why listen to music that is more depressing. How about a funny movie?! I hope you find what you are looking and I hope you can lift your spirits not bring them down anymore. Good luck to you and have a great day.
