My doctor said after the first trimester(you are close enough), that a 2-3 glasses a week is fine...although not at the same time. My husband is German and over there most pregant women still have a glass with dinner. All of my friends drank a couple glasses a week when pregnant and they all have healthy babies. My doctor said it will also help you relax and enjoy your pregnancy more when you don't have to give up everything you enjoy.
I will be 17 weeks on christmas and you better bet I am having myself a merlot...lol. Have a great birthday and relax and enjoy your glass.

I drank a few glasses throughout my pregnancy. My daughter turned out just fine. I drank red wine and only a small glass each time. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, my daughter just turned 1 year old and has only been sick once (after being around several sick cousins) and has not had any sort of defects or problems. I had the first drink around 12 weeks.

I was four and a half months pregnant when I turned 21. I went and bought a bottle of red wine. I have had three glasses throughout my pregnancy and there are no defects at all. As long as you limit yourself to one glass every now and then most doctors say it should be ok. Of course I checked with my doctor before I ever bought the bottle, as I would advise you to do. And even if he advises you otherwise, remember that most doctors would say it's alright.

"Fetal alcohol exposure is regarded by researchers as the leading known cause of mental retardation in the Western world."

"The lifetime medical and welfare costs of each child are estimated by some to be as high as US$5 million."

"Most of the clinical features of FAS (the facial and other visible deformities) are believed to be caused mainly during the 10th and 20th week (Early Human Development; 1983 Jul Vol. 8(2) 99-111"

"Alcohol is a teratogen, and the only certain way to prevent FASD is to avoid drinking alcohol during pregnancy. Some studies have shown that small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy might not pose a risk to the fetus (for example, Abel, 1996; Day, 1992; du Florey et al., 1992; Forrest and du Florey, 1991; Goodlett and Peterson, 1995; Polygenis et al., 1998; Streissguth et al., 1994; Wilkie, 1997), although no amount of alcohol during pregnancy can be guaranteed to be absolutely safe."

As an education professional who reads entirely too many Special Education files, I will personally ask you not to drink at all while you are pregnant.

Call me old school but I think it is fine.

I gave up coffee and wine (not a big drinker anyway) and all during my pregnancies but I did indulge one or two times during the whole thing.

I think that we are advised against these things because moderation is so different with each individual.

I know lots of doctors who privately would have a glass (that's A glass and not a tankard) and would still advise against it to their patients.

One glass, one treat and best of health to you and the baby!

Happy Birthday!

At 12 weeks pregnant you are out of the danger zone where all babys organs are in place.

In the UK, the alcolhol guidelines are no more then 2 units twice a week.

Make sure you space it out and take your time though to be on the safe side. Have a lovely celebration!!! :) X

Instinct would tell me it's fine but a very trusted physician that I work with told me if you have that one glass at the wrong time during the pregnancy it could be very serious. If a specific part of your baby's brain or other vital organs is in the process of developing, you could cause irreparable damage. It is actually safer to indulge (in one glass) in the final weeks of your pregnancy, once the major organs are developed.

I say attempt to abstain from it however in the event you ought to, a tumbler of purple wine perhaps as soon as every week or as soon as a month will have to be adequate. Red wine is bigger than simply consistent beer. I recognise I'm beautiful unwell of now not being equipped to do or devour unique matters however that is what we ought to do to make sure a healthful and joyful child. I attempt to steer clear of all of the "no-no" meals for the duration of being pregnant however I have cheated as soon as up to now and ate a few highly spiced tuna roll. It was once so well.

I know that some people say that it'd "probably be fine" but why risk it? If I were you, I'd wait on having the celebratory glass of wine until after I gave birth.

Well, you are in your 12th week which is the beginning of your second trimester. A small glass probably won't hurt. Don't do anymore though.
