I work in IT at my job, and while watching internet usage, akamai.net seems to show up when usage that looks like spam is being logged through the server. I went to log into my yahoo email account, and akamai.net showed up again, I am more worried about phishing.

They are a high bandwidth Internet web cache. Many companies host their high bandwidth content (images, movies, etc.) on akamai. In fact, 20% of the world’s Internet traffic is delivered over the Akamai platform.

Very likely that some internet advertising is hosted there as well, both the ad and the click-through site.

So access to akamai.net is not conclusive evidence of phishing, nor does it necessarily indicate such.

If you really work as IT you would of figured it out. Just type that in the address bar and see what shows up.

You've got a kind of virus called span-ware!
To fix it, update your anti-virus software with brand new databases.
Each new page you open will open a new promo-window.
By the way, I guess you have more virus infected on.
