This Soundgarden song is called "Outshined" from the Badmotorfinger album. The opening riff is incredible and it is in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. Can anybody tell me what is meant by "looking California and feeling Minnesota"? My best guess is looking hot and feeling cold. What does everyone else think??

I think you are partly right... hot and cold, but as in internally, not so much in the weather. The song, (to me) is about disillusionment and tiring of things you once thought were worthwhile. I think the line "looking California and feeling Minnesota" means that he is 'in' - he is with the crowd, walking the walk, he looks the part, (hot) but he is just not feeling it, there is something missing... (cold).

I got up feeling so down
I got off being sold out
Ive kept the movie rolling
But the storys getting old now
I just looked in the mirror
Things arent looking so good
Im looking california
And feeling minnesota
So now you know, who gets mystified
Show me the power child
Id like to say
That Im down on my knees today
It gives me the butterflies
Gives me away
Till Im up on my feet again
Im feeling outshined
Someone let the dogs out
Theyll show you where the truth is
The grass is always greener
Where the dogs are shitting
Im feeling that Im sober
Even though Im drinking
I cant get any lower
Still I feel Im sinking
So now you know who gets mystified
Show me the power child
Id like to say
That Im down on my knees today
It gives me the butterflies
Gives me away
Till Im up on my feet again
Im feeling outshined

I would think it means that you are looking accompanied (? if that makes sense) but feel alone? The hot and cold thing makes sense, but California is overcrowded and Minnesota isn't as much. I used to love Soundgarden...unfortunately they broke up..good choice:)

He is looking "like a Yuppie Poser Wanker," but feeling "like a stupid, mid-west redneck..." (just kidding) Soundgarden is actually one of my favorite bands..."Spoonman" is one of the greatest rock songs ever written... Forgive me, Chris Cornell... The question begged for a sarcastic answer...

I think it means you are looking to buy some illegal drugs to finish your life because your favorite sports teams are not worth living for anymore!
