I mean, do body washes accomplish something, or provide some benefit, that washing with soap (whether ordinary bar soap or health-food-store type bar soap) does not?

Definitely worthwhile. It doesn't leave the soap scum that bar soap does, so you'll hardly ever have to clean the shower.

Body wash is a gimmick. Read the ingredients next to a shampoo bottle--they're almost identical, but you pay for the ads!

Advice: Use your shampoo for body wash and if you have dry skin or want to shave your legs, add some conditioner.

Soap and body wash are different in chemical composition. Soap is much older than shampoo, and has some disadvantages (see link). You won't soap your hair, after all.

Pick your body cleaner by smell and feel, and save some money by using shampoo instead of buying body wash!

I love it. They smell nice.

I think it's quicker, too. I squeeze a liitle bit on a loofah. No going back to the bar of soap because I didn't lather up the washcloth enough. No dropping the bar and having to bend over while the water rinses out all the conditioner in my hair and into my eyes, etc.

The tub needs less cleaning, too. One of my friends put herself through college working for Merry Maids. She said that body wash doesn't mess up your tub like soap does. Definitely. I can attest to that.

Yes. Many body washes have a built in moisturizer, which is beneficial for dry skin. If you use just plain soap, your skin will feel tight & dry. Then, you have to use a bunch of lotion so that your skin feels good again. Unless you have very oily skin, using a body wash is good for your skin. Plus, there are many that are scented, making everyone around you appreciate the fact that you showered! My husband uses body wash, and really likes how it makes him feel. I also use it, and I especially like all the different fragrances available. Of course, if you have sensitive skin, then you'll have to use products that are made for that type, so that you don't have an allergic reaction. <*)))><

honestly, soap is soap..
it is all based on personal preferences..some like it in bar form, some in liquid..
all soaps have pretty much the exact same active ingredients, wether it be in bar or liquid form..
the diferences come in the inert ingredients ( the ingredients that are aadded for scent, etc)

so body wash is not useless, it just will not do anything more than a simple bar of soap will do

No it is just another thing to wash with. A bar of soap will work just as well.

Usually ,they are more moisturizing, so your skin doesn't dry out as quickly.

unless it has some kind of exfoliate in it, just use bubble bath, it's cheaper and works just as well.
