I'm considering a PSP and would like to hear people who currently own one's reviews on it. Preferably from those who tricked it out and modified it to operate faster and more customised. Share your insight. Give me some tips, sites, and things to do to make it more snazzy. Also, recommend some new games that I MUST get on PSP as well. Some new ones that aren't released yet that I should consider. I've been out of the gaming world for quite some time so I need help from the gaming community to fill me in and give me the pointers regarding upgrades and certain things to modify the PSP.
I'm currently awaiting my Japanese version of the PSP. I believe it comes with a version 2 something firmware. Should I downgrade it to 1.5? In any share with me your advice, tip, and knowledge and how to fully maximize my experience with this unit.

Thanks!

Details are greatly appreciated.

If your PSP isnt 1.5 than it probably wouldn't be as fun as a DS. I have an original 1.5 PSP and bought it around the same time my brother bought his DS. At first I made fun of him because my handheld was the better one and I could do more(before knowing the capabilities of 1.5) A week later I totally regretted buying the PSP and just played my brother's DS until I found out the true power of a 1.5 PSP. Right now a 1.5 PSP can listen to radio, play most gba games at full speed, use it as a universal remote, check weather, and play homebrew or old-school games. A very useful beginner site would be www.psp-updates.com or www.psp-hacks.com both are very helpful and you can find some very cool app. for your new psp. Overall a regular PSP is very boring and will only collect dust(just like it did before I found out how to use 1.5) but a 1.5 PSP can be really fun and you'll never get bored. There are many more capabilites of 1.5 but i'm not allowed to say it but a quick google search will bring them up. Homebrew developers come out with new stuff every day! good luck

I have a PSP, but it really sucks! I have version 1.5 and is the best because then you can mod it to get emulators on your memory stick. You can search it on youtube on how to downgrade, but since last month, youtube has been taking down videos because of copy right laws and crap. Only bad part about downgrading is you cannot/will not be able to play umd bought games. They require either 2.1~2.5 versions. Plus side of downgrading is you can have massive emulators depending on your memory stick duo. You can find a lot of neet games online to download. Bad side of downgrading is that you cannot play current umd software because it requires you to upgrade, but their is a file online that tells you how to upgrade then downgrade etc...it's a hassle though..

Fully customizing the psp is on the user, i mean for myself, i use mine mainly for movies, and playing old NES, SNES, GENSIS, SEGA SATURN, PS. You just have to look around, it's extreamly easy to do as well!

Hope you have fun with your PSP
